The board of control of Indiana University Athletic Association has met and wrangled over the football schedule for next fall. From present indications Chicago will be played at Chicago and Wabash and Illinois at Indianapolis. A plan to play two games at Indianapolis is meeting with the hearty approval of the students. Owing to tho conference rule only five games can be played, and; it is desired that at least one good game be played at Bloomlngton. Two years ago a contract was made to play the University of Cincinnati at Cincinnati this year, but this may bo canceled to make room for Wisconsin. Those who have purchased membership tickets, which have been onsale for some time past, are the only ones who may attend this evening. A reception will be given and the orchestra wllfHarnish music throughout the evening. Everything is now ready for the for mal opening, the last finishing touches being put on yesterday. It is safe to say that the exhibit this year contains as fine canvasses as ever were shown in Indiana out side of Indianapolis. Wednesday, the general public will have its first opportunity of viewing the exhibit. Those who are not mem bers of the association wll be welcome to the exhibit any time except when special evening events are held. Only members of the association may at tend on 1 these occasions. Anyone may become a member by purchasing a membership ticket, which can be se cured at various places for 50 cents each. Thursday evening of this week an entertainment will be given by the Daughters of the American Revoluton The program "will be' appropriate to Flag Day, which is observed on that date. Saturday evening a musical program will be given by the orcheS' tra. Other entertainments have been arranged for next week. CHURCH AND CLERGY. The Church of England has an in come of $75,000,000 a year. There are within the United States today 199,538 religious organizations. with 30,313,311 members, an average of 100 members to a church. The Methodist church on John street, a few doors east of Nassau, New York city, was the first Methodist church In America. In a recent speech at Taunton, Eng land, the bishop of Bath -end Wells said It was a 6ln for a man of leisure to take the Lord's day for pleasure, but a hardworking man who never bad a chance for recreation except on that day did no wrong to take it then. Washington, 6; Cleveland, 4. HASSARD HAS TROUBLES Police Arrest Former Saloon Keeper on Charge of Selling Liquor Without a License. Richard Hassard is again in trouble. He formerly conducted a saloon north of the Pan Handle tracks, but failed last May to have license renewed by the county commissioners. Hassard was arrested yesterday charged w'h selling liquor without a license and of giving liquor away on a public holi day. Hassard was released on $100 bond. He vehemently denies his guilt and states that he is a victim of police persecution. In the affidavits filed against him It is charged that he sold a glass of whisky to Alonzo Tate, and a gill of whisky to Julius Milton. Both men were arrested by the police and they incriminated Hassard in confes sions they made. The case will be called this morning in police court. The case of Alphons Collett, charged with selling liquor on Sunday, will also be called in police court this morning. ARMOUR HAS BIG FIRE Omaha Branch of Big Packing Con cern Came Near Being Destroyed Two Men Killed.. Publishers' Press Omaha, June 12. Fire which started at midnight in the police department of the Armour Packing Co., plant In South Omaha for a time threatened the complete destruction of that mommoth establishment The fire Is believed to have been caused by crossed electric wires. ' While working inside the oleo house, two members of the fire de partment were caught under a falling wall and crushed to death. The prop erty loss, on account of the fire, will reach $200,000. ARE IN NATIONAL SESSION Travelers' Protective Association Opened Its Meeting at Buffalo Yesterday. Publishers Press Buffalo, N. Y., June 11. Only routine business was transacted at today's session of the Travelers Protective Association whose annual convention opened in Convention Hall this morning. Mayor Adams welcomed the delegates to the city and the response was by President W. R. Johnson, of Nashville, Tenn. The convention will be in session for the remainder of the week. Sanies. The name "bank" is derived from the word "banco," which originally was a term applied to benches set in the market place for the exchange of money.
