SEIBEL'S DOG SHOWS CONES TO RICHMOND NEXT M0NDA

The dog and pony show is headed this way. It is a new one, a big one, and a gerat one; that Is according to all reports. On Monday and Tuesday of next week Seibel Bros.' Trained Animal exhibition, the latest as pirant for dog and pony show fame, will give two exhibitions dally Rich mond. This dog and pony show has never visited Richmond before, this being its first annual tour through Indiana, but that it is one of the very best shows of its kind on the road Is vouched for by long and creditable crltlVaudeville at the Gennett. Beginning next Monday night Manager Swisher will inaugurate a double night performance in vaudeville in the Gennett, the firs tat 8 o'clock and the second about 9:15. This will give all those who have not an opportunity to attend one performance a chance to attend the other. During the sum mer many prefer to spend the early part of the evening on the street or in other pursuits and to go to the theatre about 9 o'clock. To all such the change will be very' welcome. The change In program by which the motion pictures are brought nearer the middle of the program is a pleasing one. Tomorrow a good bill for next week will be announced. Patronage this week has been very liberal. Vaudeville at the Phillips. This week's bill at the New Phil lips has proven a strong one with lovers of vaudeville, as it offers a pleas ing variety and has en especially attractive turn In ths work of Charles and Minnie Burroughs. A whole vol ume could be written about that man Burroughs. For one think he says he does not like "sun-oaked" Indiana and he is anxious to get back to his summer home In trie East, but this season he will have but eight weeks rest and will not get home until about time to celebrate the Fourth of July. From Richmond the Burroughses go to Springfield and Chillicothe, where there are Sun and Murray houses. Next week's bill at the New Phillips is partly outlined in the display ad vertisement elsewhere. "THE WHITE CITY" The "White City" at Broad Ripple near Indianapolis is the greatest and grandest pleasure resort in Indiana and just opened to the public with all modern attractions. The special attraction for Sunday May 27th, will be the first trip of the wonderful Air Ship "White Eagle." This will be the first ascension of any air ship in Indiana. Indianapolis and Eastern cars make direct connection for these grounds. For further information inquire of local ticket agent. 25-2t PROF. Etiquette Amou Forest Ranftn, While In the forest reserve In which we hunted I met several of the forest ranger, all of them .intelligent men. 6omo with college education, men vfca seemed peculiarly adapted to their calling, who knew the mountains thoroughly, handy with an ax and gun and

full of resources. A degree of ethics obtained among the sportsmen, guides, trappers and forest rangers that was interesting. When any one goes to ft deserted cabin, in most of which would be found food, bedding, a stove, etc., it Is proper form for him to stay nli night, eat all he can put away under his belt, if in dire need divide any supply of tobacco and matches he may find, but he must take away nothing else, since to carry off an article of little value, such as hammer, hatchet, pinchers, snow glasses, screw driver, tish hook, pipe or other similar articlo might Inconvenience the owner greatly when he happened along and wanted them and was forty miles or more from a source of supply. If a belated wanderer fails to wash the dishes and leave a supply of dry wood sufficient to build a fire and cook a meal he is at once tabooed and his companionship is not sought after. Northwestern Sports man. Tlie Slse of tlie Son. The sun, provided we measure only the disk seen with the smoked glass, Is 8GG.000 miles In diameter I. e., 103 earths could be comfortably ranged side by side across the disk. To cover the surface would require many thou sands. To fill the interior we should need 1,300,000. On a smaller scale we might represent the sun by a ball two feet In diameter and the earth by a good sized grain of shot. Let the sua be hollowed out, then place the earth at its center and let the moon revolve about it at Its real distance of 240,000 miles. There would yet remain nearly 200,000 miles of 6pnce between the moon's orbit and the Inclosing shell of the 6un. Indeed to journej from one side of the sun to the other, through the center, would take one of our swift express trains nearly two and a half years. So vast a globe must be heavy. Since its density is only one-quarter that of the earth it only weighs as much as 332,000 earths, or two octlllions of tons. The attraction of gravity on its surface would cause a man whose weight was 150 pounds to weigh two tons. Laagnnse In France. There are several districts in France where the very ancient tongues still survive. Basque is spoken by nbotit , -" ery other spoken tongue, and the assertiou is commonly made that to un derstand it one must hare learned it in the cradle. This peculiar property gives in the mind of tho Basque people support to their belief that it was the language of Adam and Eve. The same claim is advanced, though, for Breton. The Romans when they conquered Gaul compared Breton to croaking of ravens. About a million people speak Breton. Then there are Flemish, still spoken by a comparatively small number In northeastern France, Catalan In the Pyrenees-Orientales and Languedoc audi Provencal, whose gradual ex tinction has been delayed mainly by the efforts of a few literary enthusi asts. Ancient Roaea. Flinders Petrie, tho archaeologist, while excavating among some ancient Egyptian tombs, found a wreath of roses which had been bound into a garland and buried with the dead thousands of years ago. M. Crepin, the botanist and micro3copist, made a careful examination of this queer find and prepared a paper on it which he read before the Royal society of Belgium. From this paper it appears that in places where the flovrers were matted together they still retained their color as well as a very faint odor. The species to which they belong is now ex tinct, but a rose resembling them in several particulars Is still grown in Egypt and Abyssinia. "A Ear Bodkin." "Bare" means "mere" as well as "naked," and I cannot doubt that by "bare bodkin" Shakespeare meant "mero hr1L-ln " fh nnint of tlie nnssnere being with how contemptibly small an instrument we could, if we chose, put an end to life and all Its bother. "Bare" probably was used instead of "mere" ror tne sane or euective aiuiernuon. A. HI .U AAUliilV. k, KJ.. & v w'U.u' Richard H.'s "little pin," III, 2, 1G&.)
