SOME SHARP SELLING IN STOCKS TRADING CONTINUES VERY SLOW HOWEVER. New York, May 23. Opening prices in the stock market were irregularly changed from last night within a nar
row range, and in the majority ct cases opened at last night's prices. The amount of business done was in significant. A rise of in Reading and a decline of 94 In American Smelting were the only notable changes. There was so little doing that the course of the, market was readily swayed by the concentration of orders in one or two stocks. Active selling of Brooklyn Transit, which depressed it to 80, carrietl the general list down wit it, but when Reading was 'pushed up Va the market immediately strengthened. Tennessee Coal and Colorado Fuel gained 1, while New York Central, Canada Southern and Northern Pacific yielded 1 and Great Northern preferred 1. Heavy and Narrow. The tone was heavy and the general market narrow, with intervals of semi-stagnation in the trading.
