VETERANS IN COLLISION ONE KILLED SEVENTY HURT Two Traction Cars Both Loaded With Old oldlers at the State Encampment at Lafayette Collide Scenes at Hospitals Pathetic. Publishers Press Lafayette, Ind., May 23. One man was killed and nearly seventy old sildlers were injured In a collision on the Lafayette Battleground electric railway at 6:45 a. m. today. Both cars were crowded with veterans called here by the annual G. A. R. encampment. The collison took place at switch No. 53, in front of the Mortimer Levering farm. One car was coming to the city from Battleground, loaded with veterans, and the other was ah outward-bound car, carrying old soldiers to the battlefield. Charles Roudebush, the motorma on the south-bound car, had both legs cut off and he lived only a short time. M. O. Farner, conductor, was sugnuy nurt. urant inon was run ning the north-bound car. Both cars were demolished. A dozen physicians were soon on the scene and the injured persons were taken in special cars to St. Eliza beth's Hospital. May Day will be celebrated at Earlham next Saturday, in truly old Engligh fashion and the festivities give promise of being the most interesting that have been held In Richmond for several years. The students have been working very hard to make the occasion a success In every way and to be the recognized leaders in such festivities . In hte middle west. The event has been celebrated at Earlham every five years for a number of years, but this year's event will by far, surpass anything that has as yet been attempted. It is being given for the benefit of the new Carnegie Library. This insures tho hearty support and cooperation of those people connected with the college and those residing in this city. Will Require Forty Minutes. In the procession, which will move promptly at 2 p. m. and which will traverse the various walks and drives of the campus, will be all the various attractions. The procession will be a quarter of a mile long and will consume forty minutes in. the march, before arriving at he place, where the program will be rendered. .The follow. Ing very interesting characters will be in the procession in their order: Twelve Herals. Buglers. , , . Queen of the May and Twelve Attendants. Twelve May "Pole Girls." Two Quack Doctors. After Program Entertainment. After the program is completed the crowds will repair to different places on the campus. The gypsies will go to the tents and there the astrologers and fortune tellers will work their arts. The egg women, the quack doctors, the beggar, the candy and flower girls will ply their arts among the crowd. Robin Hood and his band will hold an arching contest.
