Dry weather is having its effect on - the gardens and the local dealers are OOt escaping the unde sired' results. Tegetables that would now be on the market with some rain now and then, are hard to obtain and the prices are affected accordingly. Gardners have practically stopped cutting kale and what there Is on the markets is bringing an unusually high price. Lettuce Is high up and brings from 10 cents to 12 cents per pound. This is due only to the weather conditions. There Is a good supply of rhubafb on hand and the price is reasonable.

Publishers' Pressl Indianapolis, May 16. Receipts, 7,000 hogs, 1,000 cattle and 100 sheep, against 4,150 hogs, 1,187 cattle and 59 sheep last week, and 5,970 hogs, 1,314 cattle and 86 sheep one year ago. There was a liberal supply of hogs and prices, as a consequence, fell fully 10c. All leading buyers were in the market and their activity kept the market from breaking further. Big packers were strong buyers in the early market and took probably more than half , the offerings. Shippers came into the market in the later grading and were also good buyers. There was one Eale of choice selected heavy hogs at $3.00(?i6.60, which was the top, while another, load practically on the same order, went at. $0.57. Most hegs sold at
$6.50. There were occasional sales of heavy and of light hogs at $6.55, but these were few. Some light hogs sold as low as $6.45. Sales ranged from $6.456.60, with practically all the supply going at $6.50. Cattle Steady to Strong. Cattle sold steady to strong. Receipts were liberal. Tbe strength of the market was manifested in the butcher grades, which sold well. Good cows and heifers had the call, while buyers discriminated greatly in poorer grades. Early demand was for the best grades of cows and heifers which moved, lively. Buying of steers was slow in getting started,-butrwhen the demand"" began ' to assert itself they moved lively at steady to strong prices. Sheep Market Steady. Receipts of sheep were. fair and the market closed steady. Best spring lambs brought $9, with a number of sales around $7.508.00. Yearlings sold at $6.00.
