RICHMOND MARKETS COUNTRY PUTTER 18 GETTING MORE PLENTIFUL AND THE QUALITY 13 GOOD. Butter, which has been bo scarce the past few months, that is good country butter, is now getting quite plentiful and the quality of it could not be im- , proved upon. Country people are bringing in good butter daily and the local dealers are well stocked. The price is low and the demand steady and large. Poultry is not plentiful, but there has been practically no change in the prices paid in the country, as the condition is only temporary and will be changed as soon as the "setting" season is oyer. Nine and ten cents a pound is being paid for poultry by the local dealers. The demand for poultry is as heavy as usual for this season of the year. COUNTRY PRODUCE. (Paid by the Bee Hive Grocery.) INDIANAPOLIS MARKETS HOG3 WERE RECEIVED IN LARGE NUMBERS, BUT THE PRICES WENT UP JUST THE SAME. tPablishers' Prens Indianapolis, flay 11. Receipts, 500 hogs, 1,100 cattle and 200 sheep, against 5,332 hogs, 1,018 cattle and 120 sheep one week ago, and 8,498 hogs, 9S8 cattle and 50 sheep one year ago. The hog market closed generally 5c hgher. Receipts were more liberal than any day this week thus far. Trade was active, as all buyers were in the field, and a good clearance was made e.ly. When the market opened there was a fair supply of hogs in pens. The shipping element was bullish and the market started on a strong to higher basis. Good heavy hogs were in demand. Cattle Prices Steady. There was no quotable change in cattle. Trade was not as active as on former days this week. Receipts were only fair. There was a light supply, and as buyers were inclined to hammer values, trade was not brisk in the early market. Trade became livelier on good butcher grades of cows and heifers. The best heifers sold for $5.00, which is steady compared with like sales on other days this week. Cattle. Grocers say they are selling three times as many pines- as they sold two weeks ago. Prices run from 25c to 35c. Oranges are 25c to 60c a dozen, according to size. Apples are scarce and there is not much demand for them at prevailing prices $1.80 and $2.25 per bu. Potatoes are about steady at 90c a bushel, with new potatoes at 70c a peck. Sweets are 50c a peck. Young onions are in" more demand than for some time and selling at 12c a dozen bunches. Radishes are somewhat stiffer, bringing 30c a dozen bunches. There is a strong demand for rhubarb at 12c a dozen bunches. Green beans are 25c a quarter-peck, peas 20c for the same quantity. Cauliflower is 20c to 35c a head, green peppers 50c a dozen, cabbage 4c a pound, kale 20c a peck, spinach 30c a peck. There was a fair run of cattle on the market today for Friday. The demand though was less animated and but fair especially on account local butchers, who apparently seem well supplied and were indiffer ent in taking hold. Prices in some intances were reported barely steady to a dime lower than yesterday on the light butcher grades. Good fat steers of good weight and quality, however, sold well, as such were not plentiful and there was a good inquiry for them. Stockers and feeders steady. Milch cows sold slow and the medium and common grades weak to a shade lower. Bulls Market active and prices steady under light and good demand. Calves Market opened steady with a good demand. Hogs The condition of affairs is the market for hogs were practically the same as on yesterday. Receipts were fairly liberal and under a good demand the trade opened with all grades selling promptly at a good average of yesterday's current prices. Sheep and Lambs Receipts or sheep and lambs were fair and good light fat grades sold well at steady prices, but heavy clipped lambs were neelected by local dealers and are quotable lower. NEW YORK MARKETS SOFT DEMAND FOR SOME OF THE SOFT COAL ISSUES TRADE ACTIVE. Publishers' Press New York, May 11. Prices of stocks at the opening of the stock market started higher than last night with dealings on a moderate scale, and the changes generally narrow. A rise of 2 in Anaconda and of 1 in Great Northern preferred were the only exceptions to the average of small fractional changes. St. Paul was the only important stock in the list to show a small decline. Scarcely half a dozen stocks of speculative prominence shared to any decided extent in the early advance. While the general market was higher traders realized steadily on recent purchases, especially Reading, Union Pacific, St. Paul, Smelting and Unit ed States steel stocks. Ultimately the selling of these undermined, the advance in progress elsewhere and there was a general relapse, which carried some of the leaders below yesterday's closing. At the top level In the first hour Great Northern preferred howod an improvement of 64. Anaconda 5, Northern Pacific 3. Sloss-Sheffield Steel 24. Internation al Pump preferred and Kansas & Texas 2. the preferred Amalgamated Copper and the Republic Steel stocks 1 tol, and Missouri Pacific, Atchison, Atlantic Coast Line, Ontario & Western and Sugar a point. Smelting suffered a loss of 1 and United States Rubber 1. Large Trade in Reading. Large operations were resumed in Reading at an advance of 2 points. The response in the general market was very sluggish, but the decline was checked. Louisville & Nasnvine and Central Leather rosel, Inter national Pump preferred 3, VirginiaCarolina Chemical 2, Chesapeak & Ohio 1, and Texas & Pacific and Metropolitan Street Railway 1. Con solidated Gas and National Lead declined 1. Bonds were steady. The development of strength and activity in stocks which had previously been dull and heavy aroused the mid-day market into considerable ac tivity. There was a good demand for some of the Southern and soft coal stocks. Union Pacific and St. Paul sold 2 points above yesterday's final figures, and Norfolk & Western, Chesapeake & Ohio and Southern Railway a point. NEW YORK STOCK MARKET.
