Indianapolis, May 7. Receipts, 1,500 hogs and 200 cattle, against 1,473 hogs, 300 cattle and 14 sheep one week ago and 4,918 hogs and 339 cattle for the same day one year ago. The hog market closed with a loss of 5 cents all around. Receipts were light. There was no competitionthe packers taking the bulk of the supply. The quality of the offerings was only fair. Good heavy and light hogs sold at $6.40, but there were few of this grade. There were more sales at $6.35 than at any other price Common light hogs sold as low as $6:30. Active Demand for Cattle. The cattle market closed strong to 10 cents higher. Receipts were ligh and the demand active. The bulk of the receipts consisted of mediumweight steers and butcher-stuff. There was one sale of two steers at . $5.80, but the greater number of mediumweight steers sol dat $5.25 and down. A few heifers sold at $4.70. There were only a few cows on sale good enough to bring $4.35 to $4.50. The remainder of this class were canners and cutters. Veal calves sold on a basis unchanged from the close of last week.
