HOG RECEIPTS, 1,000 YESTERDAY AND PRICES RULED STEADY THOUGH LOWER. Publishers' Press Indianapolis, April 30. Receipts, 1,000 hogs and 200 cattle, against 1,964 hogs and 132 cattle ast week and 927 hogs and 275 cattle one year ago. Trading in hogs was purely a local affair. The market closed with the heavy hogs selling on a steady basis, while the lighter kinds were rc lower There was only one load of good, heavy hogs on sale, and theso wre taken by shippers who paid $6X0 for them. Local packers took the great er numbe rof the offerings at prices ranging from $6.50 to $6.55. The quality of the offerings was not of the best .and owing to this fact trading was not spirited. The bulk of the sales ranged from $6.45 to $6.55. Slightly Lower for Cattle. There was a weaker tone to the trading In catte. Receipts were not large and included the usual run for the first day of the week. 1 Good steers brought prices steady with the close of last week. There was only one sale of this kind. The bidding on butcher stock was slightly lower. but at the close of the market this grade was 5c to 10c, while the good kinds would have borught steady pric es had there been any offered. Veal calves were stronger to 25c higher. Receipts of calves was arge for the first day of the weok and the bidding was lively. Bulls were steady. Receipts of sheep were light and hardly enough to form a market. Prices were steady on the good kinds. Cattle. RECEIPTS ABOUT SAME AS SATURDAY AND PRICES WERE STEADY ON MOST CLASSES. Cincinnati, O., April 20. C'ctfe and hogs were the leaders to .1 - and trading wa sfairly brisk in born lines. Cattle Although the receipts of cattle today were close to a fourth smaller than on Monday last week, the supply was in keeping wit the demand, which was apparently fairly, improved, and the movement more active, especially on the desiable fat grades of light butcher stuff. A general steady tone was evident, and salesmen, as a rule, reported sales mostly on a basis of last week's closing range of prices, with the exception of the fair and lower classes of cows, as a good many of this kind were neglecte don account of plenty of the more desirable grades for butcher purposes. Hogs There was a very fine run of hogs on the market today, and, although the demand was good enough to promptly absorb the offerings, an easy to a lower tone was manifest from the start because of a sharp decline in prices reported in Chicago, owing to comparative heavy receipts there, and packing and butcher grades sold from 2 14 5c lower than on Saturday alst week. David Hawkins, 310 North Eighth street, an old resident of Richmond, and engaged in the stone quarrying business says: "For many years I suffered with my kidneys, and although I resorted to every menas at my disposal I was steadily getting worse. I had constant and severe aching through my back and in my kidneys and an irregular and unnatural condition of the secretions. For a year I had every day such severe attacks of vertigo that I dare not stoop or attempt any lifting. I used numerous remedies without any material relief, when on being advised to try Doan's Kidney Pills, I went to A. G. Luken's Drug Store and got them. THERE WAS AN EFFORT TO SUP PORT THE STOCKS TONE IS KEPT FEVERISH AT PRESENT. Publishers' Press New York, April 30. Support was effective in the opening dealings in tte stock market, and prices rose for the majority of issues. A large proportion of losses, however, was mingled with the gains. Changes, as a rule, were small. The notable gains were: Brooklyn Transit 1, Canadian Pacific and Illinois Central a point, Union Pacific, St. Paul. Reading, New York Central and Baltimore & Ohio large fractions. F.essed Steel Car fell 1, Atlantic Ocean Line a point and Locomotive . Fifteen thousand shares of United States Steel sold at 39 to 39, compared with 39 on Saturday. The tone of the market was rather feverish after the opening. Stocks fluctuated quite narrowly before the support became stanch enough to turn the tide of prices decisively upward. Before this very heavy profit-taking in the stocks that opened with gains wiped them out. The rsie carried a number of stocks well above last week's close, with the demand for the Mill stocks, Union Pacific, Reading and the prominent metal stocks on a large scale. Prices went still higher, some of the leaders selling materially above their best figures of the forenoon. Reading met stock on all rallies and Its inability to hold its advance caused a slackening of the general demand. St. Paul and Atchinson got up a point.
