CAPT. MEREDITH DESIGNS PLACE Centerville Man Gives up Federal Job to Younger Man. LONG TIME IN SERVICE WAS FIRST GIVEN APPOINTMENT BY GOVERNOR MORTON WILL NOT RETURN TO INDIANAPOLIS. William M. Meredith, a native of Centerville. has tendered his resignation as chief of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, to take effect June 30. Secretary Shaw accepted it. Capt. Sleredith at one time was foreman of the Indianapolis Journal and an intimate friend of Governor Morton. Gen. Harrison appointed him at the head of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. He is now well along in years, and his health has beeu falllnj for seme time. About two months ago charges were filed against him by a man who had been dismissed from the stables connected with the bureau. He was accused of making free use of Government vehi cles for private purposes. The charges were not reated seriously by the Treasury officials. Capt. Meredith was first appointed at the head of the bureau in 18S9'by President Harrison. He was displaced when Cleveland became president, and was re-instated under McKinley. He served as director of the bureau about nine and a half years. He said at Washington yesterday that his plans for the future are not decided, but he expects to spend the remainder of his days In Washington. The change In the directorship is due to a desire of the Treasury officials to place a younger man in charge. It is in no sense a reflection on Meredith's long and honorable service. Assistant Director T. J. Sullivan Is to succeed him.., .. , ,

Price $6.00 AT THE THEATERS There will be an abundance of comedy in the bill provided for the New Phillips the coming week, and after all that seems to be about the most desirable thing In entertainment of this kind. The -program calls for a singing stnd talking turn by Sabine and Dayle; a high class comedy musical act by Clark and Franklin; singing and talking by Miss Margaret Grayce, comediene, who presents 'The Summer Boy"; comedy barrel jumping by DeGonze and McDonald; illustrated songs and the latest motion pictures projected by the Philoscope Indications are that the bill will prove highly pleasing, for while it runs strongly to comedy, there is sufficient diversity to please all. The illustrated songs will be new, as will the motion pictures. . Tonight will close a week, that all things considered, has been a favorable one at the New PhilHps. There are many good things yet tu come. Bie business has characterized the week at the Gennett and the Guy Stock Company has proven one of the most popular that has ever appeared at this house. Last night the offering was "Way Out West." This afternoon "Only an Eagle" will be presented and tonight the bill will be "Slaves of Russia." :v , - - Tomorrow Manager Murray will an1 nounce his vaudeville bill for next week and it again promises something of much interest to the public. This week's bill, with the Dunbar Caprlne Paradox and the Three Hillyers as headliners, has proen a most pleasing one and big audiences are expected for the remainder of the week. i;. Manager Swisher of the Gennett Theatre has for Monday, April 16th, the New York Herald cartoon comedy "Buster BrownJ' Many successful plays have been made popular In the funny pages of the great daily newspapers, but none would appear to have as much genuine attractiveness as "Buster Brown" whom Richard F. Outcault created for the New York Herald. Laughter reigns from the start to finish and singular to state, the numerous "show girls" are pretty and can sing and dance to perfection.

RECENT RULE RESCINDED ALTERNATE QUARTERS ARE TO BE RECORDED REUI RES CONSIDERABLE WORK BY THE CARRIERS. The order discontinuing the lceeiIng of records of mail handled by rural carriers, was of short duration, as the order has been suspended, and the carriers instructed by the postonlce department to keep the records as usual. The order discontinuing the keeping of records, went into elfect Jan. 1, and lasted for one quarter, the new order taking effect April 1, and the boys on the rural routes are now keeping records as usual. The old order was very popular with the carriers and with postoffice employes generally, for the reason that it relieved them of a great deal of bookkeeping and clerical work. However, the postoffice department of late has been watching up the various routes very carefully, and whenever a route has fallen below the standard, it has been discontinued, several in Indiana having been cut off the list because they were nt sufficiently productive to warrant their continuance. The old order has been suspended indefinitely, and records will be carefully kept until such time as the postoffice department orders otherwise. It seems to be the opinion that alternate quarters will be recorded, the results from these being just as good as if every quarter of the year was reported.
