Lower Cables, Favorable Weather and Liberal Northwest Receipts Caused Easier Wheat Opening Short Buying Kept Prices Steady Corn Market 8teady on Good Oemand From Commission HousesOat Market Weak. Publishers' Press Chicago, March 27. The wheat" market opened easier because of lower cables, liberal receipts In the Northwest and favorable weather for the fall-sown crop In the Southwest. Later, however, there was a rally on a good demand by shorts. Pit traders were the principal sellers. May wheat opened V to c lower and sold up to 78c. Corn Receipts Increase. The corn market was about steady. There was a good demand from commission houses that offset the reports of lower cables and local receipts somewhat In excess of previous estimates. May -corn opened 8c to (a c lower, and advanced to 4343c.
There was little trading in oats, but the market was weak. A 10c advance in the price of live hogs caused a strong market in provisions. Chicago Grain and Provision. (Furnished by O. G. Murray.

TRADING IN HOG MARKET ACTIVE AND SALES SHOWED A , GAIN OF FIVE CENTS.
Hogs Closed Firm Bulk of Supply Going at $6.40(36.45 Several Sales at Top' Price Cattle Receipts Fair Female Butcher Cattle in Good Demand Fair Increase in Sheep Receipts. Publishers' Press Indianapolis, March 27. Receipts 4,000 hogs. 1,100 cattle and 200 sheep. When the hog market opened the supply in sight was comparatively small, and with a 'good demand Jxth from local and outside sources trading from the start was fairly active and most sales showed a gain of 5c. The closing market was firm. Most of the supply sold at $6.406.43 although there were several sales at the top price. Cattle Fairly Steady. Receipts of cattle were fair average compared with recent Tuesdays. At the start the demand was principally for female butcher cattle and No. 2 steers, all 'of which sold at steady prices compared with yesterday. Heavier grades of steers moved slowly at first, but finally most of the supply was placed at prices little different from yesterday. Hulls were steady but there were not as many sales of calves at the toy price as on yesterday. Sheep Receipts Increase. There was a fair increase in receipts of sheep and lambs and with enough to accommodate a normal demand from local butchers, there was fair competition and trading was active as steady to strong prices compared with last week. The bulk of the supply was not top kinds and sold at $6.25. There were not enough sheep to establish a new range in prices. Cattle. . Receipts Cattle, 237; Hogs, 2,045; sheep 26. Cattle The condition of affairs in the butcher cattle market today was quiet, but prices in the aggregate were quotably steady at the decline noted yesterday. Receipts were light, but, with the state cattle carried over from yesterday's arrivals, the supply proved fully ample. J3ull market ruled slow with steady prices. Calves were slow and prices were weak. Light Demand For Hogs. Though the receipts of hogs were but moderate, there was apparent a full supply on the market to accommodate u comparatively indifferent and light demand in so far as the local trade was concerned. A barely steady to easier feeling ruled, and the movement was quiet.. Sluggish Sheep Market. Receipts light and prices generally steady, but. the market was sluggish under very light demand for lambs.

SMALL GAIINS PREDOMINATED AT THE OPENING BONDS IRREGULAR.
Traders in General Took Their Cue From Reading Which Was Irregular Well-Known Railroad Stocks Stationary to Lower Selling Movement Became Extended Later in Afternoon Close Lower. Publishers' Press! New York, March 27. First prfces of most of the speculative favorites at the opening cf the stock market were unchanged from last night, and of the remainder only a few changed more than g. . Small gains predominated. Dealings were on a moderate scale. There was little indepndent ' action in the early stock operations, traders generally taking their cue from the movement of Reading, which was highly irregular. Its uncertain fluctuations restricted ventures in the more stable stocks, and there was little novelty to the dealings in the well known railroad stocks. An early loss in Reading of a point was recovered but it went to the lowest again later. Selling Movement Extended. Prices ran off to below last night when reports were circulated of a disagreement in the coal conference at Indianapolis. The movement was narrow outside of a few stocks. Bonds were irregular. The selling movement became largely extended, many stocks running off a point or more. The heavy liquidation in Reading and the absence of support in other prominent stocks induced considerable professional selling. The general list closed fractionally to a point under the opening.
