REPRESENTATIVE D. A. DE ARM0ND. Representative De Armond, who Is one of the ablest Democrats In congress. Is a native of Blair county. Pa., but has lived In Missouri since 18C7. He Is a lawyer and a former Jude and Is so witty and sarcastic that he always speaks to full seats in the house.

FOR THE HOUSEWIFE Forcemeat Balls. Take six slices from a stale loaf of bread, free from crust, put them into a basin, pour over them Just enough hot milk to moisten the bread, but not to make It "soppy," and when cool add a tablespoonful of chopped parsley and a medium sized onion chopped and lightly fried In butter. Season with salt and pepper, beat up with a fork, then make into a paste with two well beaten eggs and Just enough flour to bind the mixture. Shape into balls the size of walnuts and drop into the boiling soup about a quarter of an hour before serving. Kltcben Hints, v Without cleanliness and punctuality good cooking Is Impossible. Leave nothing dirty; clean and" clear as you go. Haste without hurry saves worry, fuss and flurry. Stew boiled Is stew spoiled. Strong Are for roasting; clear fire for broiling. Wash vegetables In three waters. Boll fish quickly; boil meat slowly. A good cook wastes nothing. Crust Coffee For Invalid. Crust coffee or toast tea is an old fashioned drink, but Is rarely made as palatable as It might be. The best way to make it is to bake slowly some thin slices of bread In the oven until very dark brown. Tour one cup of boiling water on to a heaping teaspoonful of the dried breadcrumbs, let it stand a few minutes in a small saucepan, where It will keep hot, then pour It through a strainer into a cup and serve at once. Devonshire Clotted Cream Put a broad, shallow pan of milk just milked on the side of the range and bring very slowly to the scalding hot point but do not let It reach the stage where the boil begins. Leave it where it will keep very hot for twenty minutes or half an hour; then stand in a cold place and later set on the ice until all the cream has risen. Skim off the cream carefully, being sure not to take the milk with it. Attachment For Brooms. The dustpan attachment for broom? herewith shown can readily be appheto any ordinary broom and operated venablo the -dirt to be swept into the pan, conveniently and without necessitating the sweeper to stoop closely over the dustpan during the operation.

IP .B3reiln2 Uie-atl0crgent Is securely" KeldTTgaTnsf" the Croom, ' the" bottom of the dustpan being held against the side of the broom and the broom used in the ordinary manner. When the dirt being swept up Is collected at some point the broom is turned around so as to enable the dustpan to descend to the floor in such a way as shown in the illustration. The mouth of the dustpan is then disposed toward the broom and on the opposite side of the dirt, which is then swept Into the dustpan. Cut Flowers. The best time to cut flowers to keep well is in the early morning before the sun's rays have reached them. A knife or a pair of scissors should always be used to clip them off, as they should be cut smooth and clean from the stem and never broken off. Flowers that are not fully developed will keep the longest, but they should reach their maturity of color and size before being cut Use For Old Blankets. When blankets have become thin and unsightly from long use have them washed, pot two or three together and cover them with pretty sateen to make quilts. Button down the quilts here and there, mattress fashion, to keep them in proper shape and finish off with a nice frill of sateen. Mustard Poultice. When a mustard poultice is wanted very strong it may be made with mustard and warm vinegar or when not required so' strong equal quantities of mustard and linseed meal may be mixed with warm water. For Colds. For colds give the children a leaepoonful of castor oil and all the water they can drink, or if the cold be a very bad one a small teaspoonful of melted vaseline is good. This Is good for grown people too. Obstinate Hoarseness. Make a strong decoction of horseradish and a little, vinegar and sweeten with honey. Take a tablespoonful frequently until the hoarseness is removed. Riddles. What is the oldest lunatic on record? Time out of mind. What Is a muff? Something that holds a lady's hand and doesn't squeeze it. When is a clock on a stair dangerous? ., When it runs down and strikes one. ' ' - ' Why is a pig in the kitchen like a house on fire? The sooner it's out the letter. J Why are troublesome visitors like trees in winter? Because It is a long time before they leave. What Gothic Architecture Means. It is quite natural for people to think that "Gothic architecture" means the architecture In! vogue among the Goths, but it does not mean that at all. It Is a term used by the architects of the sixteenth century to express their contempt for the architecture of the middle ages, which they thought rude and fit only for barbarians like the Goths. I was rundown from overwork, as I had not been able to take a vacation for three years and naturally my nerves were all unstrung and I was greatly In need of rest and a tonic "1 went away for two months, but did not seem to get my strength back, although I was taking a prescription which the doctor gave me before I went away. "At the request of my relatives, with whom I was visiting, I began to use Peruna, and you cannot realize how glad I was when within a week I found I was feeling so much better. Inside of a month I was feeling splendidly, ready and able to take up

my work again." Estelle Campbell. A Spring Tonic Almost everybody needs a tonic in the spring. Something to brace the nerves, Invigorate the brain, and cleanse the blood. That Peruna will do this is beyond all question. We have on file thousands of letters which testify to the curative and preventive value of Peruna in cases of nervous depression and run down conditions of the system. Peruna is perfectly harmieka. It can bo used any length of time without acquiring a drug habit. Peruna does not produce temporary results. It is permanent in its effect. It has no bad effect upon tha system, and gradually eliminates catarrh byremoving the cause of catarrh. There are n multitude of homes where Peruna has been used off and on for twenty years.
