CHANGE CHAPEL PERIOD EABLHAM STUDENTS TO HAVE ' r- CHAPEL ONCE A WEEK. it Period Will be Lengthened to One Hour Instead of Twenty Min- .. utes aa Formerly. ; j At the beginning of the spring term at Earlham, March 27, a decidedly new arid novel plan will be inaugurated in conducting the chapel exercises. Heretr f ors it ha been customary to devote twenty minutes each morning to chapel exercises, but next term there will be only one ser vice, each week and the time will be lengthened to the period of one hour. This plan is used in many of the larger universities of the country arid is decidedly popular with both the student and faculty. The plan, how ever, is a radieal step for a denom inational school to take. The stu dents at Earlham are happy over the chainge, as it gives more time for study four days in the week. , The plan will also be welcomed by the day students as it is a very hard matter for them to get to "Earlham every morning in time for chapel, and. as twelve absences during the term take one fifth of a credit of the terms grade, the rule works hard ships with many of them. The scheme will be tried for a few weeks and if it does not prove satis factory the old ' system will be re stored. In a yesterday, ' a Richmond horseman said that if a company of fifty business men and horsemen could be, of-" ganized to build a race .track and park at some point between Richmond and Centerville, where good in-' terurban service coulld be- assured, there was no doubt of the success of the racing game locally. . This horseman's idea was, to build a halfmile track instead of a mile course and to eliminate the county fair feature altogether.
