LITIGATION IS . ON DECREASE

: s. CONDITION IN WAYNE COUNTY APPEARS GENERAL IN THE STATE. THE PEOPLE GROWING WISE They Appear to Be Getting Further Away from Legal Entaglements Each Year. The dockets of the Wayne Circuit Court for several years past, indicate more eloquently than any argument that might be made, that there, is a constant falling, off. of in legal business at least of the kind that results in costly controversies in the courts. There seems to be a disposition among Wayne county people to settle amicably and with the least possible publicity, disputes and entanglements that spring up as a result of the settlement of estates, etc. The conditions that are apparent in Wayne county, seem to but reflect conditions in the State at large. William L. Taylor, ex-attorny general of Indiana, in an interview given out yesterday at Washington, said: "But few persons have any idea of the decrease of litigation, not only in Indiana, but throughout the country. I would not advise any young friend of mine to become a lawyer. Thehre are in Indianapolis today 700 lawyers and I will venture to say that 500 of them are hungry half of the time. At the best they have a very hard time making both ends meet. "People are becoming wiser than they used to be. They are settling their troubles out of court. One would think that the great prosperity with increased activities in business deals, would cause much additional litigation over contracts, but it is having no such effect. People either are keeping their contracts more rigidly than formerly or are adjusting their differnces without the aid of law.jrs. If it were not for the ambubjfce lawyer the fellow who follows the smell of arnica and makes his living off personal injury cases that are In many instances a mild form of blackmail the courts would .have very little to do these dys." WAYNE COUNTY MAN He Made, Sensational . 'Get-Away" From Rush County Officers a ..Few Years Ago. (Palladium Special.) Shelby ville, Ind., March 13. The return of Herman Chueden from Hot Springs, Ark., gives to the people. of Shelbyville, Rushville and Richmond, an interesting story. While in that famous city, Herman saw Will Rineheimer, formerly of Richmond, a man who ten years ago figured in several sensational stories. His mysterious escape from the Rushville sheriff, Ben L. McFarlan, is recalled, and it is remembered that Rineheimer is supposed to have been concealed in Rushville .for several weeks after he broke jail. Rinheimer was one of the best known gamblers in this section of Indiana. He divided his time between Richmond, Shelbyville and Rushville, although the lattr city was given the title of hdme, his wife residing there. About ten years ago Rineheimer was arrested for robbing the home of Daniel Murphy, was tried in the Rush circuit court and was sentenced to the state prison. While he was on his way, with the shriff to the depot for transportation to Jeffersonville, the escape was made. . Theodore Skotski, of Shelbyville, has always ben given credit for the delivery, but the manner in which it was accomplished has proved moor than a nine-day wonder. Skotski secured a horse and buggy from a Shelbyville livery stable and drove to Rushville, arriving there after dark. In a short time he Returned, accompanied by Reinheimer, who a short time before had been within the jail walls. Skotski and Rinheimer drove to Shelbyville. It is supposed that the latter remained in hiding in this city until the excitement subsided. A well known man residing in Shelbyville at the present time was supposed to have harbored him, but the suspicion was never verified. . Skotski was arrested for aiding the prisoner to escape. He took a change of venue and was tried a New Castle. The result was conviction. The judge who presided over the case had made a serious error during the trial, v and Jater granted a new trial

MODERN BATTLESHIP. In it stands the commandto the men and gives his tubes which communicate wheel and the nautical inforward turret. It Is usuby twelve inch plates. It is protected the ship, but commands a perfect view to Skotski. The trial never occurred. It is said, however, that Kkotski, who never went back to Shelbyville, was , later arrested for larceny and sentenced to the penitentiary. For months the police of Shelbyville, Rushville and neighboring cities kept a sharp lookout for Rinehimer, but he was not found. Herman Chueden j however, saw him at Hot Springs recently. He was at his old trade and was engaged in "buck ing the tiger." Deafness Cannot Be Cured. J by local applications, as they cannot reach the -diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and'that is by constitutional remedies, peaf ness is caused by ' an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian, TuJb&s, When thia tube is- inflamed you .haye a rumbling : sound or imperfect hearing, arid ' wheh it lis entirely closed," deafness is the 'result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the 'mucous surfaces. We will give One Hundred Dollars for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that, cannot be cured by Hall's Catarh Cure. Send' for circulars, free. " J "' ' - F. J. CHENEY & CO., Toledo, O. Favorable Comment on the Work of Richmond Artist, Who Died a Year Ago. The final exhibit of paint insrs of the late Charles Conner, of Rich- ' mond, will be made this week, at B. H. Herman & Co.'s art gallery, in Indianapolis, and the Indianapolis News says : - "In this collection there will be thirty oil paintings and six water colors. The pictures for the most part will be Indiana scenes, showing Hoosier landscapes in many varied moods wih wooded hill, wide stretches of blossoming valleys and willow-margined streams. ! 'In addition to these there will be canvases with memories of his visit to California, with views of San Gabriel canyon, San Pedro bay, A California Village, and some mountain scenes. The water colors, though few in number and nearly all Indiana subjects,' are in his best style and show the artist to be a master in the portrayal of home scenes. t General statistics show that the .average life is growing shorter. The world will have to move to Chicago, to escape an early grave. V
