ISiA TREAT; TO ; HEAR SAVILLE
CORNET PLAYER AT ? IS AN EXPERT ON TH - INSTRUMENT. OTHER ACTS ARE ALSO GOOD The Bestcsiass TJIH Present Sobix Bood at Oaaaett fUeatre HaxoM Kalis the Ctar. It is a real treat to Ug: die mailt that Saviile, of the blackface comedy team "of 'Bryant and 8aville, txnf paying at the New Phillip? io Vandeville, an gel ou of a coron 231a tones are of the beat and by comparison with many who try to play; the cornet, he is a real artist. Mr. Saville is also able to get much out of several other instruments and ' his appearance in a series of vests and kimonas keeps the audience in constant laughter. . He has as choice an assortment of kimonas as was ever seen in any one collection, no doubt. This blackface team is one of the best that has ever been seen at this house. Other acts on the bill, which is receiving liberal patronage this week, are by Otto Weaver, hand balancer; the Lynns, comedy sketch artists; Harrison ' Brothers, original comedy sketch ' artists j Cal Lankert in . illustrated songs, and the motion pictures. In announcing the bookings of the Qennett Theatre for the coming six weeks, the management lay special stress on the appearance of the Aborn Company ?s revival j of the greatest cf all American comic operas "Robin Hood." ' This attraction has been touring the! larger cities of the South, aid though the newspapers of Dixie Land are highly critical, it has not received a single adverse criticism. The Aborn organization includes what has won the title everywhere as an "All Star Cast," as this well-known 'management believe in general excellence, rather than having the expense :' centerd in one big name, to the detriment of the balance. As the Atlanta Journal says: "The cast is so well-balanced that the absence of a star is an improvement. Every member of the company is good, and the chorus is particularly strong, which meaens a great deal in an opera like "Robin Hood." WANTS A BALL GAME RUSHVILLE HIGH SCHOOL i . .. WANTS TO PLAY RICHMOND. If Game Is Arranged It Will Be Played at RushvilleOther Games. Principal Ellabarger of : high school, has received a letter from the Rushville high school, which states that, .as soon as the baseball season arrives, it would like to have a game with the local high school nine. in high school for a strong team, a game may be arranged. If played at all, the game will probably have to be played at Rushville, because the athletic association of high school is not financially strong enough to support a baseball team and a track team. The students almost all prefer track athletics to baseball, when , it comes to deciding between the two. However, a baseball team will be organized and if no out of town games can be arranged, games will at least be arranged with the Kibbey team. TO MEET SUNDAY AFTERNOON. Th Moat Doialr Dar a ta Blaw The' sihgie day. la th world's history Which was fraught with tbe most tremendous consequences to mankind was the day on which' the battle of Marathon was fought The hajulfuJ of tiny states that Inhabited Greece had developed faculties which , Indicated ,; that man had . advanced another stage . toward tbe highest ideals. Foremost among. those II ttle nations was Athena, which state, too, contained the germs of human freedom. It was tbe forerunner of the democracies of the world. But the very existence of Athens and Greece was threatened by the huge barbaric empire of Persia. Darius had sent out his hordes of warriors to add the Grecian states to his vast dominions. Face to face his forces met the Athenians on the plains of Marathon. Hitherto invincible in the field, the Persians looked upon the little army opposed to them with contempt. The Greeks themselves hesitated to hazard a battle with the conquerors of the world. Their generals debated the question, and the decision to fight the Persians was caused by the eloquence of the Immortal Mlltiades. He led his 10,000 Greeks against the Persian host and gained a decisive victory. Tbe glorious day of Marathon beat back the advancing tide of eastern despotism anil barbarism and saved the freedom and civilization of the western world. Pearson's Weekly. A Klna' Rue. Alfonso, king of Aragon, was one day examining the different articles in his jeweler's shop In company with many ladies of hi court. He had scarcely left the house when tbe jeweler missed a diamond of great value and ran after him, complaining of the theft. -The king, not willing publicly to disgrace any of his attendants, commanded a large basin full of sand to be brought him. Into which he directed each person to put in the hand clinched and to draw it out fiat. By this means the diamond was left In the sand, unknown by whom. Calcium. , ' Calcium was first made In minute quantities by Humphry , Davy. , In the new process chloride of calcium Is placed in a receptacle and fused by electrolysis. An iron cathode forms a basis upon which the molten calcium deposits itself, and the once rare metal builds itself up Into an Irregular rod resembling a cabbage stalk. When the stalk has grown to the right length it la chipped off and dipped in .paraffin wax to preserve It from the action of the air. Three St ran are ud Remarkable Men. As Dumas, the grandfather, j prided himself r more upon his wonderful strength and skill hi. athletics than his generalship, as Dumas the second prided himself more upon his knowledge of cookery than the authorship of "The Three Musketeers," so Dumas the third prided himself more upon hi knowledge of art than upon the writing of "La Dame aux Camelias. .They were three strange and remarkable men. After that, If we're lucky, we get paid for 'em Cleveland Leader. . The Bargmln. "You ought to take this horse,, said the dealer. "He Is a bargain." -' "Well, then.
