RICHMOND BICYCLE DEALERS ARE GETTING READY FOR SPRING TRADE.
BETTER GRADE OF WHEELS
A Good Bicycle Can be Bought for
$35 Some . Being as High
:1
Hi
Richmond bicycle dealers are preparing for a , large business during the 'coming season : and they,. are stocking their rooms with large numbers of wheels. Every thing, points toward the largest year in the business since the craze died down, several year ago and ! already several wheels haye been sld iherjt The cheap wheels that filled:. the markets to the exclusion' of . best grades forxa " long time,' have gone, mid in their place has come a pattern which will last as long as wheels are ridden." Twelve'years of experimenting has resulted in the manufacture of a bicycle which is light, neat and easy running as a clock, with modern appliances which strengthen and increase speed. Prices have gone up, too, on all grades of wheels, and aire now nearer the mark at whichthey first sold than at any time for ten years. The high prices prevailing on raw material, iron steel and rubber, have caused the advance in the finished wheels, and " better workmanship is being put on them. Tires, which formerly, brought from three to five dollars a. pair, are now worth from $5.50 to $9 per pair, and , on the lower grades, the retail prices has" about doubted. ; It is found, too, that tires are better and not as liable to puncture as theyiwere a few years ago The wheels themselves, are marked to sell .for from $25 to $70. No
grades are to be found for less than'
the $25 mark and the average price
for the good wheel is about $33 or
$40. Sundries are selling for about the same as usual,' although an advance has ' been noted in the" whole-sale-prices.' ; ' . ; " '' One ' prominent dealer in speaking of what he expects' for the coming year, said, 1 The boys wb have never ridden bicycles have-growfl 'up atid
jyant,' wheels. Then too, boys, who have old wheels," of the 'models of "about' five years ago find that" they tire wearing out and need; neW ones: Then there are those who "consider the wheel a business necessity, 'as ,?a quick means' of transportation. People are prosperous and I expect to sell over a-hundred wheels."

Corn, increase, "196.000 bushels. Oats, decrease, .1,040,000 bushels.
INDIANAPOLIS MARKETS
Chicago, February , 28. Despite higher cables and a stronger market at Liverpool, wheat was inclined to b'e rweak. The' chief . influence - for lower prices; were favorable weather in the 'Southwest arid increasing receipts in the Northwest. Pit traders were f' strongly ' inclined; to ther selling side, and there was heavy liquidation by .prominent- commission-houses. May 'wheat opened s unchanged Ho e lower, and sold down to 81c. Higher Cables for Corn. The corn market Vas steady, chiefly t on weather j conditions and-; higher cables. An V pflicial: report stating that the crop of Rbumania, this'year, would be 15,000,000 bushels below the ' average .was aT. bullish influence. May corn opened a! sliade "higher and sold off to 43c. The market for oats was easy in sympathy with wheat, there being no special news, i ' ? ! The provision market was firm, because of an advance in the price of live hogs and some profit-taking by local bulls.
