Louie" His Highness the Bey PHILLIPS BILL DRAWING WELL LAURENCE ALBERTIA LIFTING WITH HIS HAIR IS THE BEST FEATURE. BROILERS LEADING NUMBER Their Dancing in "His Highness The Bey" is Decidedly Novel Next Friday Night. Perhaps no bill presented at the New Phillips has afforded a more pleasing variety than the one now running. There is something to suit the tastes of those who care more for one feature than another, and all are of such merit that no one can com plain that the part he is particularly interested in is not up to the standard. Miss Lucv Wulfken gives a splendid exhibition of flexibility; Phil and Carrie Iiussell are good in German comedy while their dog comedians, Jim and Sam, produce great merriment; Arthur and Bessie Krona present a sketch that is a take off on foppery; Joe Bryan and May Blanch have a comedy that sets forth some of the sweets in matrimonial jars; Lawrence Albertia gives a marvelous exhibition of strength. Cal Lankert has two illustrated songs of fine sentiment and the Philoscope projects two motion pictures that are too interesting to admit of any one leaving the house until the final curtain goes down. "His Highness The Bey." There is an abundance of melody that is catchy, comedy that forces one to hearty laughs, chorus figures and ensembles that are a delight to the eye, stage settings fresh, gorgeous and bewildering, electrical effect and novelties that dazzle in "His Highness the Bey," the season's tri umphal musical attraction direct from a five months' run in Chicago, to be seen at the Gennett theatre on next Friday evening. There are also pretty women with voices that charm and dancing girls that do the most intricate dances with ease and ,grace. in tact these wonaernu I "broilers" are a whole delightful J show by themselves. "Babes in Toyland," which has created flattering comment upon the part of the critics and public everywhere the great musical comedy is being presented, will be seen at the Gennett next Tuesday night. The scene of the play is a dramatization of the famous "Babes in the Woods" nursery fairy stories. It is around Alan and Jane that so much of the thrilling interest of the piece centers. The first act shows the home of Contrary Marv and her sisters, Boy Blue, Red Riding Hood, Miss Muffett, Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son, Bo-Peep and all the other children. The succeeding acts show the children lost in the realms of toyland. The scenic effects and costumes as well as the electrical effects are most marvelous. There are many prominent people cast in "Babes in Toyland," and it will be one of the events of the dramatic season here. STOS The Kind You Have Always Bought

A Scheme find u L:: uciic-on. One of Balzao's v. ild schemes was a plan to cumbine Paris theaters. One niorniug in September, an early day to talk of monopoly ten literary friends of the great novelist met by invitation at bis bouse. Before luncheon Balzac told them of his scheme. His idea was to form a trust to buy up all the theaters as a sequel to a smaller preliminary trust for the supply of plays to every theater in Paris. The ten guests were to supply them, lie estimated the profits of the first year at 120,0M), and each year would, he thought,, bring in more money. He expounded his scheme at length for over an hour, and finally one of the guests suggested that be might go ou at table. The novelist started. "I forgot all about ordering anything to eat!" he cried, and late in the afternoon the members of the shadowy trust made a shadowy meal of bread and cheese and sour wine in a small country restaurant. lie AVore tlie Robe. A story i.;; told of the late Dr. Peddle, a Scotch minister, to whom his congregation had presented a pulpit robe. lie bad never worn a robe, and. after acknowledging the gift, he said be would wait in the vestry five minutes after service to bear any objectors to the innovation, Nobody appeared but one old lady, who, on being asked what her objections were, answered that she had read the epistles of St. Paul and could not find" any reference to the apostle wearing a gown. "What epistle did you read'i" asked the doctor. "From Romans to Hebrews," answered the old lady. "Well. Janet," said her minister, "I have read from Romans to Hebrew also, and I could never find any reference to the apostle wearing the breeks. What would you think if you saw me going into the pulpit without breeks?" Needless to say, the old lady departed satisfied with the explanation. Evolution of tte Xeedle. ' Sewing needles of bone, stone, glass and bronze antedate all historic records, but those of iron, brass and steel are comparatively modern. Bone and glass needles have been found in Egyptian tombs that are known to be over 4,000 years old, and similar domestic Instruments of bronze and copper have been found in the mounds and burial caves of Europe and America which are believed to be much older than those found with the Nile mummies. The needle first appeared in its present form in European countries In the year 1410, but the art of making them was kept a secret for upward of 150 years after the date last given. In the year 1080 they were first made in the American colonies, but at what point is a mooted question among the historians. Walt Whitman. Of the days when Walt Whitman was a nurse in the hospitals of the civil war a biographer of the poet says: "He would often come into the wards carrying wild flowers newly picked and strewing them over the beds like a herald of the summer. Well did he know that they were messengers of life to the sick, words to them from the earth-mother of men. And then as he left of a night after going his last round and kissing many a young, pale, bearded face in fulfillment of his own written injunctions he would hear the boys calling: 'Walt, Walt, Walt! Come again, come again!' " Hindoo Idols. Several weeks ago I was In an Indian village and peeped inside the chief Hindoo temple. To my great surprise I saw the portrait of a famous London beauty, nicely framed, calmly looking down at the idol beneath it. The lady, I am sure, never dreamed that she would be worshiped in this way. Lucknow Letter to London Mail. Voluble. "Have you seen Professor Gabbleton, the scientist, lately?" GIFTS ARE ADDE TO ZiON'S G FOLLOWERS CONTINUE TO SEND HANDSOME GIFTS TO OVERSEER. $40,000 IS AMOUNT WANTED Several Building Lots ia Chicago Are Contributed Child Gives f Her Pennies. Chicago, III., Feb. 21. The fruits of Overseer Voliva's dramatic appeal to tlie people of Zion City continued to pour into the administration building yesterday, and gifts of land; cattle, and personal property of different kinds were made steadily through the day. The offerings now aggregate almost $40,000, which Overseer Voliva asked for. It is thought that the giving will continue today and there is little doubt that the full amount will have been raised before tonight. Deeds to four vacant lots worth from $500 to $1,000 were made out at the administration building and the day brought numerous letters from Chicago Zionists containing checks and drafts. Crowds stood about the administration building during the day and watched each donor as he brought his offering. An old man, leaning on a stick and limping, walked up the approach to the building, leading a heifer, his on ly possession, and tied the animal to a tree. A little ml brougnt a handful of pennies. Overseer Voliva called a meet ing of the twelve members of the busines council in the administration building in the morning. He urged the adoption of a liberal business pol icy, encouraging the establishment of industrif lihout outside capital. A meeting of the forty Chicago of ficers of Zion was held in the after noon at the Zion tabernacle, Six teenth street and Michigan avenue, and Overseer Voliva made a similar address there. Large offers of financial aid for the city also were made atthis meeting. STOZIZA. Bean the Signature of The Kind You Hate Always Boaghl A POST MORTEM WAS HELD.
