SHADOWGRAPHERS HIGHLY PLEASING
THEY ALONE WORTH PRICE AT NEW PHILLIPS VAUDEVILLE THIS WEEK. "GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS'TODAY At the Gennett Should be a Good Show if Like Last Year's Company. It is well worth ten cents alone to see the Alpine Sisters, lady shadowgra pliers, who are appearing in the vaudeville program at the New Phillips tliis week. Their work has not been seen at this house before and perhaps nothing- of the kind has been seen of late in Richmond. That they are exceedingly clever in making lifelike shadows with their hands cannot be denied and their wor!: is warmly received by the audiences. It is certain their part of the program will prove an attractive feature all week. The Thompson Sisters, s-inaers and lancers, are especially clever as dancers and never fail to secure encores. Major . O'Laughlin, gun and baton spinner, is at the head of the business in this line. His finale, when he places lights on each end of a rifle and whirls it until they appear to be a circle of light, brings out much applause. "Mike," the pig featured by the Two Fantas, is a laugh producer. He is fed from a bottle and is made to imitate a hungry baby. The Fantas close with a spirited boxing match. Cal Lankert effectively sings "Down "Where the Mohawk River Flows," and another selection that is filled to the brim with rich sentiment. The motion pictures conclude a good bill. Despite the rain last night's attendance was quite large. If the company presenting "Girls Will be Girls," which appears at the Gennett tonight is as good as the company which traveled over the country last year, Richmond theatre goers should again enjoy a good show. Those who saw the show in other j cities last year say that it is well worth seeing. It is a musical comedy or gaiety and although not of similar plot is in the same class of shows with the "Maid and the Mummy" seen here this year. COUNT B0N1 EXTRAVAGANT SPENT 190,000 FRANCS FOR FUR OVERCOAT. Money Belonged to His Wife Managed To Borrow Money From All Classes of Society. Paris, Feh. 13. The scandal in (he family of Count Boni de Castellaine is destined to furnish aristocratic society gossip for another month. An American woman, moving in the exclusive set o Parisian society said: "I hear the Count's debts aggregate 18,000,000 francs, of which S,000,000 francs is due to jewelers. Boni is heavily indebted also to money lenders and tradesmen. His ex travagance is picturesque and mon umental. "It is stated that he once borrow ed from a tailor. He ordered a fur coat costing 100,000 francs. Wb,en the coat was delivered there was 90,000 francs in one of the pockets. This method of borrowing from trades people is practiced by many aristocrats in Paris." A Viscountess, whose name is mentioned in connection with the Count's said before the scandal was disclosed while praising the Count's amiability: "Just fancy! Boni dined in my home only a few times, and now sends me a pearl necklace worth 100.000 francs." The Count's extravagance rivaled that of the eccentric English Marquis Anglesey, who, in paying his bills, always scorned to accept any change. His generous tips enriched scores of lackevs in Paris. Packers, like other people, have memories that are better in "some spots" than others.
ENTIRE FORGE QUIT PAPER!
WHEN THE MANAGER WENT TO RIVAL PUBLICATION. Providence Journal is Now Looking for Men Had Record Breaking Day for Resignations. Providence, R. I., Feb. 13. The resignation of practically the entire editorial staff of the Providence Journal is one of the incidents following the announcement that its former manager, Frederick Hoppin ' Howland, supported by Senator AIdrich, Colonel Samuel Pomeroy Colt and Marsden J. Perry, will at once start a new morning paper, which will support Colonel Colt's senatorial candidacy. Thirty-eight resignations were accepted, and the vacancies have been filled by newspaper men from New York. At the annual meeting of the Provi idence Journal Corporation, Mr. Howland ceased to be manager and treasurer, thus ending the control of the Hoppin family in the Journal, which they had held for many years as heirs of the late Senator Anthony. A movement was immediately started to obtain control of the Telegram. The nroject had been under consideration since last November, but awaited the action of the stockholders of the Journal. The new paper will be called The Morning Tribune and will appear in two weeks. When it was known on Friday that Mr. Howland had obtained the Telegram, the resignations began to pour in upon the new managing editor of the Journal, Frederick R. Martin. HERMIT FROZEN TO DEATH. William Hoycard, Reputed Chicago Athlete, Dies Alone at Grand Island. Neb. Grand Island, Neb., Feb. 13. William Hoycard, reputed once to have been prominent in athletics in Chicago, was found frozen to death in a hut where1 he lived alone. The crying of his dog attracted a passerby and the latter found Hoycard's body in a sitting posture in his bunk. There was no food end only some cornstalks for fuel. It is stated that he formerly was a member of the British navy and had a i family in England. A woman came from Chicago about two yeors ago and tried to induce him to return with her. Ohio, like Indiana and Wisconsin, has a new cigarette law. It is so strong that it forbids the use of pipes and cigars. It will get 'smoked out" we fear. While everybody seems to be satisfied, we haven't heard from Archie Roosevelt as to how he thinks he is groins' to like Nicholas for a new brother-in-law. At times the American "public" must be very annoying to the United States Senate. INDIANA INVENTORS. The following patents were issued this week to Indiana inventors, reported by D. Swift & Co., patent lawyers, Washington, D. C. Oliver Allen, Greenfield, cross arm construction for telegraph poles; Thos. Beinis, Indianapolis, pneumatic tube for store service (sold for $10,000) ; Win. Bockhoff, Indianapolis, cash register, (sold for $2,500) ; Wm. Boyd, Connersville, means for lubricating vehicle wheels, (sold) ; S. P. Grey, Indianapolis, furnace (sold) ; Wm. Griffith, Worthington, lifting jack, (sold for $1,500); Chas. Hall, Alexandria, insulating material; Wm. Hollander, Evansville, dough raiser, (sold for $1,750) ; John Jackson, Orleans, attachment for spectacles; Thomas Kehoe, Ft. Wayne, oil feeding device; Henry Moore, Anderson, truck (sold) ; Earnest Morrow, Bluffton, window screen; Jos. Nethery, Indianapolis, pneumatic straw stacker, (sold); Mofatt St. Clair, Ft. Wayne, electrical brush holder. Many requests from Catarrh sufferers who use atomizers have resulted in Liquid Cream Balm, a new and convenient form of Ely's Cream Balm, the only remedy for Catarrh which can always be depended on. In power to allay inflammation, to cleanse the clogged air-passages, to promote free, natural breathing, the two forms of Cream Balm are alike. Liquid Cream Balm is sold by all druggists for 75 cents, including spraying tube. Mailed by Ely Bros., '56 Waren street, New York.
