'" Laurence B. Smelser, the Earlham orator delivered his oration, "John Paul Jones" in chapel yesterday morning. He has improved it a great !eal since the primary contest and his chances for winning are now better than ever. A mass meeting of the students was held in the auditorium yesterday at 1:15 and a great amount of enthusiasm was aroused for the contest. The fellows have the yells all in good shape and are arranjrincr to make plenty of noise.

PARTY HAS RETURNED. The party of Detroit traction officials, which passed through here last week in a car of the Detroit, Monroe and Detroit Traction Co., has retifrned home after an inspection of the Indiana electric lines. The party did not return through Richmond but went to Fort Wayne from Muncie and from Fort Wayne to Lima, Ohio.

Examinations were held yesterday, at high school in ' almost all studies. The second term sophomores had anr examination in rhetoric and will have

t another today. Pupils as well as j teachers are anxious to have the examinations over and to make a good

start in the new term which begins

February 11. A Baseball Team. The baseball candidates at high

school are already busying themselves to get together a team for this spring and summer. There are a number of good ball players in the school and it is thought a good team will be the result.

DU HADWAY NO BETTER. Charles R. Du Hadway, who is in -Florida for. his health is reported no better and has gone further south, to Orlando, in the hope that he may be , benefitted.

WOLF FOUND DEAD. Recently Roll Butler of Dublin received a wolf as a present from a Dakota friend. Not long ago the animal escaped and Friday a wolf hunt was organized. After the party of tired Dublin sportsmen had wandered about for hours hunting the beast, it was found dead by the railroad track, the victim of too intimate acquaintanceship with an engine.

. An agent of the company was in Richmond recently and several business men. of the city have been invited to accompany the party on its next . tour of the south. The special train leaves, Kansas City, Mo., on

February 12, and will, make a complete tour, of sMexico, going over the Hue of the Kansas -City, Mexico and Orient Railway, to, Topolobampo Bay from that point over Mexican railroads to the, mining, fields and large cities of the Republic. More Locomotives Needed On Eichmond Division of Pennsylvania. The freight businesss on the Richmond division has so increased that the traffic is hampered by lack of sufficient motive power. " More locomotives are needed, it; is said by the employees, as freight, sometimes has to "wait a day or more before it can be moved. ;
