THE MORNING PALLADIUM SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 1906.
One of the greatest American millionairei nce said to his physician, "A million dollrs, Doctor, for a new stomach," and then the sick man groaned and turned away. One of a man's greatest pleasures is that born of a keen appetite, vigorous digestion and a good dinner, and this belongs to jnany a good fellow who is living on small orages, but the rich man without a stomach has to forego the good things of the table because bis stomach rebels. Without a bealtl-y -tomach and a good digestion, our blood is til m, watery and poor, our heart action is weal:, our liver axi not do its duty, and man is miserable and unhappy. In this condition man is prey to the germs of influenza, consumption, malaria and all ;the ills that he is heir to. Consumption can be treated by natural methods which are as close to nature as possible. Dr. R. V. Pierce, chief consulting physician of the Invalids' Hotel and Surgical Institute, at Buffalo, N. V., years ago understood this disease, and after a long period of experiment discovered certain roots and herbs which were nature's remedies, and succeeded in putting them up in a form that would be easily procured and ready to use. This he called Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. It gives no false stimulation because it contains no alcohol and no narcotic. It helps digestion and the assimilation of such elements in the food as are required for the blood. Instead of a cod liver oil, against which the already sensitive 6tomach will declare open rebellion, this tonic has a pacifying action upon the sensitive stomach and fives to the blood the food elements the tissues require. It maintains the patient's nutrition by enabling him to eat, retain, digest and assimilate nutritious food. It overcomes gastric irritability and symptoms of indigestion, and in this way fever, Bight -sweats, headaches, etc., are done away with. It fortifies the body against the germs of consumption, grip and malaria, and itbuilds up the tissues and puts on healthy flesh. When the druggist says he has something that is "just as good "as Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, he says so because he hopes to make a better profit, but his own mixtures have not stood the test of long experience nor had the success that Dr. Pierce's medicines have had,

AMUSEMENTS
- At the Gennett. Manager Swisher, of the Gennett, has arranged an excellent bill for presentation at this popular place of amusement next week. The bill will be presented every afternoon and evening except Thursday, when "A Message from Mars" company appears. The bill will present many interesting features of a type not seen in this city for some time. The Lavarine Sisters come to the city highly recommended. They have received flattering press notices wherever they have appeared. Their specialty is "rapid fire" Dutch comedy dialect. La Rex, the wonderful flexible aerialist, is said to be unequaled by anyone perforimg a similiar act in vaudeville. All the other numbers on
the bill will prove very interesting.
The complete bill will be:
Overture.
Prof. Gus Frederick.
lien Harney, and Haynes Jessie.
Originators of rag time octoroon impersonators.
Lavarnie Sisters.
The greatest female dnettists extant.
Mr. Ernest Reuk.

"A Message from Mars" is the one play of many seasons upon whose excellence and delightful qualities all critics and theatre goers agree. It is the best liked comedy that has been presented in New York for years. Of the many New
York comedy successes "A Message
from Mars" has been the most succesful. It will be presented here at the Gennett, Jan. 25 by David Proctor and the original London Company.

Quite deftly from the feathered race Their secret he has wrested. Or so he has with sober face Most solemnly attested. Bay. won't we have a hiprh old timo When on our pinions flitting? AVe can the vasty azure climb To where the stars are sitting Or wander down the milky way, The minor planets dodging, Or lly around the moon and say, "Old man, how much for lodging?" And will It not be rather cute When creditors are pressing To flap our handy wlng3 and scoot And leave them busy guessing. Or when our cash Is rather shy And hunger sort of pushes To some fair southern clime to fly "Where bread fruit grows on bushes? Then hall with joy the coming wings, Uplifters of the masses, TCVhen they shall buckle on the things And sniff at railroad passes. "We'll tame the automobile's pride And make the horse look humble When up above the storm we ride, Unless we take a tumble.

Winters Are Anjimmy Sheckard, .rooklyn Baseball is In an Unhappy Mood Too 'Doesn't Like the Chicago Deal. Illiiiji.3 sportsmen are rueful over the probable loss of thousands of acres of fine bunting territory iu central Illinois as a result of the decision to drain a vast tract iu Tazewell county adjoining Spring lake. This district long has been noted as one of the finest hunting resorts iu the west In the Tazewell county court recently a petition of the commissioners in the Spring lake drainage and levee improvement district for modification of the plans was approved and permission granted to commence work next spring. The big undertaking will cost approximately i.j00,000, and the territory consists of 12,000 acres. This vast tract has been under water most of the time, due to its location between Spring lake and the Illinois river.
The land to be drained has been worthless except for hunting, but will soon become valuable for farm purposes and will add heavily to the landed wealth of Tazewell county. The drainage scheme also may affect Spring lake. The channel of the lake will be deepened and kept open for navigation during the boating season. At the recent meeting of the Indiana Intercollegiate Athletic association, which includes the larger institutions of the state, a ruling was passed which provides against the barring of freshmen from the athletic teams, a proposition presented by Zora Clevenger, Indiana's representative. It was decided to hold the annual field meet at Purdue on May 20. The following officers were chosen: President, . II. J. McOIew of Notre Dame; vice president, Dr. Seamou of De Pauw; secretary, II. K. Sutherland of Wabash; treasurer, Zora Clevenger

JIMMY SHECKARD, THE HARD HITTING LEFT FIELDER. of Indiana; financial committee, A. P. Jamison of Purdue and C. M. Trueblood of Rose Polytechnic. An important step taken at the meeting was the appointment of an arbitrator to settle all disputes as to the eligibility of the players. Professor Waldo,
who is arbitrator of the "big nine," will act in this capacity. There is one man in this country who is not tickled to death at the trade made between the Chicago and Brooklyn clubs of the National league, whereby Brooklyn surrendered the famous Sheckard for four Chicago players. This man is James Sheckard himself. He does not feel flattered over the fact that he is considered worth four ablebodied men in the National league and is much wrought up over the fact that the deal was made without the formality of consulting his wishes in the matter. In short, he considers that Mr. Ebbets, one of the owners of the Brooklyn club, gave him a raw deal when he went ahead and made the trade without even sending a hint to Mr. Sheckard, the person most concerned. "But that deal is a dead one," remarked the great fielder, "for I will not play with the Chicago team under any circumstances. My main reason is that I do not care for the west and never could do myself justice in a western City, where the fans have peculiar ways
of showing their teelings during contests. ''Unless a change is made In that deal whereby I shall play with an eastern organization I will surely be found with the independent league next season.'

The power that gives you life and motion is the nerve force, or nerve fluid, located in the nerve cells of the brain, and sent out through the nerves to the various organs. If you are tired, nervous, irritable, cannot sleep ; have headache, feel stuffy, dull and melancholy, or have neuralgia, rheumatism, backache, periodical pains, indigestion, dyspepsia, stomach trouble, or the kidneys and liver are inactive, your life-current is weak. Power-producing fuel is needed ; something to increase nerve energy strengthen the nerves. Dr. Miles' Restorative Nervine is the fuel you need. It feeds the nerves, produces nerve force, and restores vitality. 'When I began taking- Dr. Miles' Restorative Nervine and Anti-Pain Pills I was confined to my bed. I had severe nervous spells, the result of two years illness with malaria. I gradually grew so weak tha. I was unable to sit up. The spell3 would commence with cold chills, and I would become weak and almost helpless. My circulation was poor. I had doctored rijht along but grew weaker and weaker. The Nervine seemed to strengthen mc right away and my circulation was better. I have taken In all seven bottles of the Nervine, and I p-.i entirely well." ROSA K. WEAVER. Stuarts, la. Colombia Will Hold Gaines. Despite the confused athletic situation at Columbia university, the annual athletic meet of the association will be held in New York in Madison Square Garden on Jan. 20. Circumstances which have arisen have in no way interfered with the plans of Manager J. It. Iloyt. Arrangements are under way for the meeting of the best men of the east and west, and present plans call for an A. A. U. one mile championship.
