TRADERS ADVANCE OBSCURE ISSUES
REALIZATION IN PACIFICS CHECKED UPWARD MOVEMENT CAUSING QUIETER MARKET. SPECIALTIES IMMOVABLE Yesterday's Market a Quiet One Tor Favorites Anaconda and St. Paul Off. New York, January 1G. Prices started upward at the opening of the stock market yesterday through most of the list, the Pacific and Coppers showing some signs of realizing. ' The evidence of the realizing in the Pacifies checked the advance and there was some reactions. Anaconda lost 3, St. Paul preferred 2, Sugar 1, and Delaware & Hudson, National Piscuit, Smelting and Cotton Oil 1. The market became quieter when the advance was checked. The rally in the market was notable for the strength of low-priced industrials and miscellaneous stocks, which held the general list firm with some further conspicuous advances. Stocks that ordinarily show little prominence in the market were dealt in almost to the exclusion of the reg ular favorites. Hardly any of the ' well-known stocks moved more than Vi away from the midday prices. MARKET NOTE3. Attorney-General Moody has rendered an opinion for Secretary Wilson, holding that it will be lawful for the head of the Department of Agriculture to publish the names of dealers who sell adulterated seed. The question arose because the Secretary of Agriculture had an impression that if he did publish such names he would be liable for damages in actions for libel. It has been suggested that a law to compel retail dealers to mark storage e''us as such would benefit not only the consumer but the trade as well. general Indianapolis advices of yesterday state that the receipts of cattle were not as large as on last Monday, but were fairly liberal for the open ing day of the week. Nearly all kinds except the best heavy steers Were represented, and the quality was fair to good, in sympathy with an indicated weaker tendency at the close of last week, and on account of unfavor able reports from other places, the market opened with buyers indiffer cut and juices offered were unevenly lower. All the fat cattle sold at an average decline of 10c in prices, com pared with last Friday. The general demand for feeding cattle was a little better than usual at this time in the week, and sales were at steady prices. The demand for bulls was not as good as it has been, and they were 10c lower, and veal calves were about 25c lower than the close of last week. The total commerce between the United States and France, as shown by figures compiled by the Bureau of Statistics of the Department of Commerce and Labor, amounted in the fiscal year 1905, to about $160,000,000, of which $76,000,000 was the amount of exports to France and $90,000,000 was the value of im ports from that country. Senator Dryden of New Jersey, has revised his bill contemplating Government control of insurance and will reintroduce it in the Senate. Publicity is the keynote of the bill, and coupled with this aie safeguards for the detection of wrongdoing and the punishment of those so offending. It defines policies, or insurance con tracts as instrumentalities of com merce and provides for the regulation of the business through the medium of a comptroller of insurance and along lines similar to the control ex ercised over National banks. Wall Sreet and Eastern speculators generally have turned from cotton and stocks into cereals as a safe investment. The effect of this buying is seen in the advance of 2c from the low point last week, with the close within a fraction of the top, and at a net gain of llc, leaving prices 28c lower than a year ago. The market was supported by a large scattered yet influential long interest that is trading in and out. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS. Deeds recorded January 13th, 1906 Abraham L. Wiley to "Jacob K.
