TO OPERATE IN A SHOUT TIME
WAYNE WORKS WILL SOON PLACE 1906 AUTO ON THE MARKET.
BE "RICHMOND RUNABOUT"
Automobile Men Have Become Interested in the Engine to be Used in Auto.
The automobile department o the Wayne Works will soon have the first of its new 1900 model cars in operation. The new car is to be called 'The Richmond Runabout" and it is reported to be one of the, best of this class of machines that will be on the market this year. The engine, which is similar to the one used last year in the Richmond touring car mnle by the Wayne Works is aircooled and has several modern improvements which greatly increase its efficiency. Its power ranges from 10 to 20 horse-jxnvcr and Harry Land, who is in charge of the automobile at the factory says that it will be among the most powerful runabouts and capable of speeding at the rate of 50 miles an hour. The weight of the new machine is about 1400 pounds 000 pounds less' than the weight of last year's touring model. Automobile men have become interested in the Wayne Works engine which was first placed on the market last year and several features of it .ire attracting favorable comment. The machine has sliding gear and shaft drive and is one of the simplest to operate. Although little has been done to advertise "The Richmond ' the Wayne Works anticipates a good sale during the coming season. The first machine has already been contracted for and will be shipped inside of two weeks..

A feature of the fruit market this winter is the gi-eat scarcity of apples. For several . years both fancy and medium apples have been extremely hard to buy and the price has
been up every winter. The price this
winter has been rising steadily until
now groceries are forced to pay $5
per barrel for medium grades, such
as Baldwins and Greenings, and $6
per barrel for fancy table and eating varieties, such as Northern Spies and Kings. This is an exhorbitant price for grocers to pay and it forces them to retail their fruit at from fifty to ixty cents per peck according to the grade. The apples are mostly Canadian and New York stock, which was stored early in the fall and as the crops in many places failed, almost any price can be demanded and received. There were no apples in the Indiana orchards and Michigan furnished no fancy apples and but few of inferior Grades. There is no -likelihood of there being a fall in the price, this winter. If anything the price will continue to rise until the sales will entirely fall off,; except the sale of fancy varieties for table use. Just now apples are much more of a luxury than are oraiures.
