The State Board of Health ' of which Dr. T. In regard to this secretary! Hurty says: .Lime water is a very valuable remedy in stomach and intestinal troubles of children. There is no excuse for any druggist selling any limewater which is under strength. This may mean the death of a child to whom it is administered because of its' inefficiency. In five instances we found that the druggist sold 'simple well-water as lime-water. Of course an under-strength lime-water or-not up-to-standard medicine of any kind is truly adulterated." The abstract of morality statistics for the month of November contains much of interest locally, lt says in part: Total number of deaths reported, 2,0.4?; annual rate 12.3 In the preceding month, 2.GS1 deaths; rate, 11.9. In the corresponding. month -last, year 2.50(3 deaths; rate 11.7. In the preceding month, 1,103 deaths; rate, 11.9. Typhoid Fever: Typhoid fever was reported from 02 counties and it is very likely indeed that cases could have been found in every county in the State. In the corresponding month last year, 01 counties report ed 403 cases with 141 deaths, and November' of this year the cases reported numbered 3S4 with 101 deaths. Several epidemics were reported. In Wayne County there were 15 cases with one death. There was also an epidemic of obscure bowel trouble. Some physicians thought this intestinal disease to probably bear some relation to la grippe. Other epidemics of this : bowel trouble were reported from Marion, Tippecanoe and Putnam counties. . Nothlnff In It. Why, everybody thought he . was, a girl, and was sent Ho ; an institute 1VV pettieoated pilferers, and now nobody knows what t do with him, be: cause it turns out she's a boy. The hero-heroine of the amazing adventures that turned a supposed girl in to the leader of buy bandits and then made her stand revealed as a little wolf in sheep's clothing, so to speak, is Emma Ilemriehs, 14 years old, of Dundee. Fix it firmly in your mind before you go any further that Emma is a boy. Yes, that's bis name leastways. The pathos of the 'little chap's history is that he hasn't had a mother since he was 4 years old. His father and stepmother, can't be found, so nobody here knows why the lad has been brought up as a girl. Emma has long, red hair. It isn't as fine as a girl's ought to be, but it curls naturally enough and would pass in a crowd. His shoulders are square, his (w:alk is mannish. ; vl.All those things were noticed when he ,w.as rref lue "ea 01 a Juve" i. .1 11 r1 i ' Jt . i : U11 Ud"u l"a . ldU ?ls and other tradesmen by clambering through transoms. It 'was assumed, however, that Emma .merely , was a rather coarse little girl, and that she had acquired masculine ways through playing with boys. Everybody who has known the youngster long says he never chummed with the girls. He wouldn't touch a doll unless to smash it, and if any one had suggest ed any feminine occupation or amusement doubtless ther'd have been It was not until Emma was taken to the State Home for Girls in Tren ton that his rightful sphere in life was discovered. The matron refus ed to receive the boy, despite the s!;irts and other girlish garments, and sent the prisoner back to Sheriff Bergen here, who immediately con sulted County Phvsician McBride. It astonished the doctor so that "She's a boy!" was all he said when he led Emma back to the sheriff today. A "Well, I swan!" represented the limit of Bergen's vocabulary for the moment. Talk of electing Roosevelt as the successor of the late President Harper at the head of the University of Chicago, has be come strong in university circles.
