Our sole knowledge of the peo
ple oft other worlds and how far
the people there differ from our
Inhabitants, can only be guessed by
Comparison with animal nature on this mall sphere of ours. More important to us is a knowledge of ourselves. Know Thysl" was an old Greek thought. How to take care of one's own body is not so simple as some think; the human mechanism is a wonderful thing and requires watching. One man who has done more to teach the American people how to care for their bodies than almost any other, is Dr. R. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, N. Y., the Author of the "Common Sense Medical Adviser." He ay : It is not the quantity of the food eaten which produces strength and health (for some people can keep strong on a very meagre diet), but it is how much food is mbsorbed and assimilated by the blood and carried to nourish every organ of the body. It is, therefore, vitally necessary fcr the body that the stomach be in a healthy state. If disease of the stomach, or what is called "stomach trouble," prevents proper nutrition then the heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys do not get proper food they are not fed on rich red blood, and in conseptnee, begin to show signs of distress. Untwardly these signs may be pimples and eruptions on skin, pale face, sleepless nights, tired, languid feelings, or, by reason of the nerves not being fed on pure blood, they become starved, and we receive a warning in the pain we call neuralgia. Rheumatism, too, is a blood disease. After J 'ears of practice and study Dr. Pierce bund that an Alterative Extract, which he named "Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery," made from the extracts of several plajts, invariably produced a tonic effect Upon the system. It helped the process of absorption of the healthy elements in the food and increased the red corpuscles of the blood, as well as eliminated the poisons from the system. Business is business. No time for heedaches. Constipation causes them. Doctor Pierce's Pleasant Pellets cure them by noh lac the cause. Laxative and mild.

RICHMOND TO GET SEVERAL BIG THEATRICAL ATTRACTIONS IN NEAR FUTURE
THE BOSTOlilANS COMING
Manager Swisher Says Patronage of Best Attractions Has Not Been Satisfactory.
About three months yet remain of the winter theatre season in Richmond and for that period Manager Murray and Swisher of the local theatres announce that they will have some rare treats. Manager Swisher will continue to have his vaudeville bills and will vary the program at his house with big attractions. Manager Murray will keep his house exclusively for vaudeville. One of the attractions which Manager Swisher takes much satisfaction in announcing is the coming of the George II. Primrose Minstrels. Mr. Primrose was formerly with Mr. Dockstader in the minstrel business and their show was always welcomed to Richmond. Harry Conners will be here in "Miss Temple's Telegram." Conners made his biggest hit when playing in "A Stranger in New York." Cyril Scott appearing in the "Prince Chef" is booked. He was one of the leading tenors with the Floradora company in its best days. "Simple Simon Simple" the latest opera put out by Nixon and Zimmerman has been secured.." The Postonians" is also on the list. It is running under the direction of the Pauline Hall Opera Company and is receiving the most favorable comment. All of these shows are booked to
appear within two months. There are j
many other attractions .to come but these are to be the choicest. There will be no more stock companies to appear at the Cennett nor at the Phillips. Manager Swisher in commenting on the theatrical season thus far said yesterday that the patronage given to the big shows had not been satisfactory. He thought that it might have been due to the fact that many of t be' best things have come together, often times three good attractions coming in one week. He said that he had been unable to avoid this having to take the best shows when" lie could get them.
EXTENDING HIS BUSINESS
Omar Murray Soon to Control Seven
Vaudeville Houses Monthly In Ohio. Omar Murray, manager of the Phillips Opera House is now interested in four vaudeville houses and hopes in a short time to get the control of three more. In partnership with him is Gus Sun of minstrel fame. The houses they hope to have soon are located in Richmond, Springfield, Portsmouth, Mansfield, Lima, Newark and Canton.

Coming to the New Phillips. At the New Phillips on Friday night, January 12, Avill come "The Mack Crook, Jr., company, a burlesque in two acts with an olio intermediating, and said to be one of the choicest amusements of the season; full of tuneful music, the latest songs fancy dancing, catchy lines.

which are Alexis & Schall, America's great novelty dancing and acrobatic artists, direct from Keith's and Hammerstein's New York City; Amy Butler, the comedienne, a beautiful girl, Leland and Wilson, comedians, dancers and producers of fun; Stella Mack and Eva Smith coon shouters nnd others. The closing burlesque is a musical travesty. The "Black Crook Jr." is not the same show that appeared here years ago and was stopped on account of objectionable features.

Shoveling Snow. Shoveling snow is a gjadsome operation for the small boy with his first pair of boots who is only allowed to look at the desirable labor through the window. . He t'iinks if lie could only get out there with a shovel three sizes too big for him and clear the walks throughout the livelong day he would ask for no greater happiness. That isn't the way he feels about it, however, a few years later when his father thrusts the shovel into hi unwilling hands and tells him to dig. About that time in life he has developed to a point where he thinks that sitting under a palm tree on some tropical Island would be quite as enjoyable sport. That Is the way with most of our tasks. We want to knock down, wire fences to get at them before our turn comes, and then when we find out what the work is like we are glad of a chance to sneak off and hire a small boy for a quarter to finish the job.
Watchful. While congress worketh earnestly And means to do what's richt, The railroads can't their finish see. Although their eyes are bright.
Even More Effective. "She must have hj-pnotized him before he asked her to many him." "Well, it was about the same thing. She showed him her bank account."
Takes Rare Courage. "I will never marry a coward." "I suppose the man will have to at least be brave enough to ask you."
Neglected Education.
"Money talks, you know.",
"Yes, but I can't understand what the blamed thing is trying to tell me."

NEW PAPER IS ASSURED
Hearst Begins AciiTity at Cincinnati. Cincinnati, Jan. 7.-W. It. Hearst 's plans for a Cincinnati newspaper have 'reached-the point where his
agents have leased a five-story'. building in Covington, Ky., just across the
river, stipulating (on publication)
that the building was to be used for all departments of newspaper making except press work. It is variously reported that the Cincinnati edition is to be made ready for the press there and printed by a Cincinnati lithographing company till a complete plant can be put together, and that the Covington building is for a Kentucky edition, to be printed at the main offiees in Cincinnati, where Mr. Hearst secured a building some time ago. ; John R. McLean, owner of the Enquirer, wired friends here that the Enquirer could not be bought, and there was no man living with money enough to "buy it, and the breaking off of the negotiations has resulted in Hearst's agents taking quick action in preparing for the new paper here. It is said in the Chicago office of Nearst's newspapers that both morning and evening editions will bt started here.

If every day were holidays we'd soon wear out our Sunday clothes. i If every month were lovely May a sealskin sack would be no treasure. Beauty unadorned has a sharp eye out for the millions. It would take something more powerful than a stroke of lightning or an earthquake to jar a good grafter loose from his job. When a good loser goes broke It Is a
sure sign that there's going to be something doing. Frank people are often disagreeable, but that Isn't the reason they're frank. The more you lose your temper the more you have. Graft by any other name would steal as much. An aristocrat Is one whose family has had leisure to make up fairy stories to explain the cussedness of its forbears. Nothing is apt to be fashionable that conforms with the ordinary ruin of common sense.
