As the result of the settlement of the C, C. & L. bridge controversy,

through interurban electric railway traffic from Indianapolis to Dayton with direct connections at that point for Springfield and Columbus, is to begin immediately. Combination chair and buffet cars, making the trip between Indianapolis and Dayton in four hours, and running three times each day in both directions, will be put in service by the Dayton & Western Traction Company, in conjunction with the Indianapolis & Eastern. When the Chicago, .Cincinnati & Louisville railroad sought a Richmond franchise several years ago it asked a remarkable subsidy. It received nearly a quarter of a million of dollars from the people of Richmond. When the road was built it was discovered that the grade of the track, as it was raised over Main

street, lacked about one foot of giving clearance enough to allow the largest electric cars to pass under it. The most persistent efforts on the part of the city authorities failed to persuade the railroad managers to raise the tracks. Several days ago the city engineer's force began to cut the grade of the street: twelve inches, accomplishing the same result. The work was done with the announcement that the established grade of the street was really twelve inches lower than it had been set, and that the new level simply would, conform to the proper grade. It is promised that the new through service of the Indianapolis & Eastern and the Dayton & Western shall be of the best. The cars afford room for thirty persons each,

and breakfasts, lunches and dinners will be served in them. They probably will start from both Indianapolis and Dayton at about 7:30 a. m. and 12:30 and 5:30 p. m. daily. Stops

will be made at Greenfield, Knights

town, Cambridge City, Richmond and Eaton, O. The excess fare to.be charged on them probably will not

exceed 25 cents. Eventually there will be through

interurban electric service from Indinnnnnlis to Columbus and even to

Zanesville, O.
