"My Friend from Arkansaw," a comedy drama, put up by a capable company, drew a large house at the Grand Monday evening, in spite of the great enthusiasm over the election, and made a good impression. The play has a number of clever scenes that are well acted. In the first act there is something new when the heroine, stabbed by the villain, manages to- crawl to the blackboard and write the name of her murderer, and when the villian returned and erased his own name to write on the board the name of the hero, there were seores of men in the house who felt like forming a mob and lynching him. All ends well, of course, and the villian is brought to justice at last. Robert Sherman heads the com pany as Tom Howe, the ex-sheriff, who is unjustly accused, and jthe support is adequate. The same bill will be repeated tonight and tomorrow night and at a matinee Wednesday. (Towa State Register, Des Moines, Iowa). The above play will be seen at the New Phillips Saturday Dee. 17. 4fr A Big Sensation Company. A Big Sensation Company will draw a jrreat crowd to the New Phil lips Monday night. This is said to be one of, if not the best burlesque organizations extant and those who delight in a show of this character will be delighted with the many novel features to be presented. Well I think I have just cause to feel good for Hoyt's "A Trip to Chinatown" that great comedy success that has made more people forget trouble than any piece of like nature ever written will be at the New Phillips next Wednesday evening. "The Katzenjammer Kids." That perennial favorite comedydrama, "The Katzon jammer Kids" under the management of its producers Messrs. Blonde 1 & Fennessy, has boon engaged to give th-?ir unimitable entertainment at the Gennett Theatre on Tuesday, Dcp. 20. The company of comedians producing the piece this season is said to be made up of the most capable that has ever interpreted it. An entertainment made up of witty dialogues, actchy music, pretty girls handsomely costumed, high-class specialties, com bined with a perfect cyclone of merriment, briefly describes "The Katzenjammer" show. The company includes such well known artists as Baker & Lynn, the premier delineators of Juvenile Comedy, Wally Clark, the popular German comedian, Robinson Sisters, acrobatic marvels, j Major Criquie, the tiniest comedian before the public, Day & Vestal, Nov elty Act, William Baker Monologue comedian, Josie Ralson, chic soubrette, Geo. V. Baker, character comedian and many others equally well known to fame. Literally Electrifies. Surely no more could be said for the sterling merits of any attraction. At the Gennett Theatre next Saturday matinee and night will be soen for the first time in this city the new melodrama, "Queen of the White Slaves," in six acts and nineteen scenes, from the pen of Arthur J. Lamb. The play has been produced under the direction of A. II. Woods, formerly of the firm of Sullivan, Harris & Woods, and is said to be one of the greatest melodramatic productions ever made. The plot of "Queen of the White Slaves" is a novel departure from the hackneyed and time worn plots of the unusual conventional melodrama, and tells a coherent and well known story. The story relates to the abduction of a beautiful and refined young woman by agents of "The Terrible Nine," a San Francisco branch of the infa mous highbinders, her rescue through the instrumentality of a brave detective, his marvelous escapes from a horrible fate, and his rescue by an other young woman, who had herself been stolen and taken to China bv the same gang. There are many sub sidiary characters, all of them true types in this great play, a double love story and genuine investiture is something very fine, and no local theatre goer can afford to miss the heart stirring scenes of the Chamber of Death, Dead Man's Corridor, and the raft in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
