THE MURDERER OF JOHN HISER

SENTENCED TO TWENTY-FIVE YEARS IN MISSOURI PRISON HISER FORMER LOCAL MAN And Was Killed by Lynom Last Decoration Day While Defending His Wife. "Word was received yesterday that Lynom, the man who fatally shot John Hiser, formerly of this ity, on Decoration Day in St. Louis, was sentenced Saturday to twenty-five years in the Missouri penitentiary, Benjamin Hiser of Richmond, n brother of the dead man, who is employed as a clerk in the local postoffice attended the trial which began the first of last week. Lynom admitted that he fired the shot that killed Hiser but put up the defense that he was intoxicated when the deed committed and was not responsible for his action. John Hiser and nis wu'e, who was also born and raised in this county, have been residents of Sc. Louis for several years prior to his death. On the evening of last Decoration Day they had been out spending the evening and while walking home at a late hour a man rushed out of a saloon and addressed some insulting remarks to Mrs. Hiser, which her husband promptly resented. Lynom drew a revolver and shot Hiser down in co-Id blood. He attempted to escape but was arrested. Hiser lingered for several weeks in a hospital but eventually succumbed to the wound. His body was buried at Cambridge City. DUBLIN. C. S. Larsh, just sout hof town, has been drawn as' a juryman for the present term of court. Robt. Ozro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Mason, has secured a good position as ticket agent at an interurban station at Indianapolis. Cold weather is opening out a nuuu nuxvu uuuuiless will be kept up for some time. The funeral of Mrs. Nathan Earle on Friday afternoon was largely attended at the east Main Street U. B. church, conducted by the regular pas tor, Rev. G. E. Floyd. The deceased has been for years one of the most active and zealous members of the church and her death will the more be felt not only in the church but in family as well as society in general. Elder Morris, of Irvington, who has lately been employed as pastor of the Christian church for a year has moyed to Dublin and occupies Rev. Sheidler's house on Maple street. The thermometer registered at 8 above zero on Sunday morning last. George W. Murray's guessing scheme on the number of seeds there is in a squash is attracting considerable attention. A five cent purchase will entitle the purchaser to a guess. A graphaphone is the prize offered. Mathew Garthwaite and family spent over Sunday with friends in Cambridge v City. C. S. Larsh, just south of Dublin, has been drawn as one of the petit jurymen for the December term of court. Elder McGowen preached in the Christian church Sunday morning and evening, thus ending his pastorate here. Alexander Stuart died at his home in Mt. Auburn Thursday night last aged C6 years and some months. The deceased has been in poor health for some time. A widow and four out of nine children survive, two children living in Connersville, a daughter in Dayton, O,. and son Robert, in Dublin. Mrs. Stewart, the widow will now go to Dayton to live with her daughter. A sale of some household property will be had Saturday at their home in Mt. Auburn. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon conducted by Rev. Geo. E. Floyd. Interment in the Western Cemetery of Dublin. SOXY LYONS Will Not Play With Anderson Says Manager Norton. In speaking of the report that "Soxy" Lyons might become a member of the Anderson team, Mart Norton makes the following statement: "You can say that Lyons will not join the Anderson club. We made him several offers, and every one t of his propositions were met. We were willing to grant his salary demand, but you can say for me that all negotiations are off." Lyons, it is understood, likes his berth in Indianapolis, and may conclude to remain there. It is understood, however, that he will come here today to confer with his former employer, D. II. Durbin, and possibly Fisher and Norton. Bernin's Mission. Paris, Dec. 13.-M. G. Berin, the famous French driver, returned from America today, fresh from a series of automobile triumphs. He has come here, it is understood, supplied with the necessary funds with which to purchase the fastest motor car made abroad. He will seleet the car for W. Gould Brokaw, the New York millionaire, who is determined to go to Ormond, Fla., January, prepared for anything in the way of speed. Bernin will inspect all the cars on exhibition now in the Grand Palias, where the automobile show is being held, with a view to his intended purchase. The Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Society of the First English Lutheran church will meet at the home of Mrs. Harry Kaufman in South Eighteenth street, Wednesday, December 14.
