A nOTHER'S LOVeI
mother's love is so divine that the roughest man can. not help but appreciate it as the crown of womanhood. However, Motherhood is looked forward to with feelings of great dread by almost all women. At such times a worn1 an is nervous, drape p tic, irritable, and she is in need of a uterine tonic and nervine, a strength builder to fit her for' the ordeal. No matter how healthy or strong a woman may be she cannot help but be benefited by taking Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription to prepare for the event. - This is what one mother says: With a heart overflowing with gratitude X will endeavor to write you. It is nearly two years ago since I first wrote to you for advice regarding my health which was then very bad," writes Mrs. X Poore, of Hinesdale, Ky., to Dr. SL V. Pierce, chief consulting surgeon of the Invalids' Hotel and Surgical Institute, at Buffalo, N. Y. "I have described my sufferings in other letters to you. After receiving your advice and the ' Common Sense Medical Adviser ' I bought some of y.our ' Favorite Prescription,' and to-day am a well woman and the proud mother of a dear little boy." Backed up by over a third of a century of remarkable cures, a record such as no other remedy for the diseases and weaknesses peculiar to women ever, attained, the proprietors and makers of Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription now feel fully warranted in offering to pay $500 in legal money of the United States, for any case of Jeucorrhea, Female Weakness, Prolapsus, or Falling' of Womb which they cannot cure. All they ask is a fair and reasonable trial of their means of cure, . Their financial " responsibility Is well known to every newspaper publisher and druggist in the United States, with most of whom they have done business for over a third of a century. How to live in health and happiness, is the general theme of Dr. Pierce's Common Sense Medical Adviser. This great work on medicine and hygiene, containing over 1000 pages and more than 700 illustrations, is sent free on receipt of stamps to pay expense of mailing only. A UNIQUE "ALL" ELEVEN
IS PICKED FBOH ALL OVER THE WORLD ' THOMAS TAGGART AT END "Prexy" Harper Gets Tackle Position Because He Has Hit Rockefeller for Gains. The selection of an All-American eleven is at best an arbitrary one. We ask nobody to agree with us. Perhaps in some cases prejudice and predilection may have influenced our usually just decision. And, be it said, we have not seen all the contests in? which all our choices have taken part, says the New York Telagraph. , With which confessions of frailty we offer our All-American Eleven for 1904. Thomas Taggart (Indiana), left end. Grover Cleveland, (New Jersey, left tackle. Franz Ebert (Lilliput), left guard. McClintic (Annapolis), center. General Stoessel (Russia), right . guard. President Wm. R. Harper (University of Chicago), right tackle. Alton B. Parker (New York), right end. Russell Sage (New York), quarter back. William J. Bryan, (Nebrska), left half back. Theodore Roosevelt (New York), right half back. Admiral Rojestvensky (Russia), full back. To t!)e close student of affairs the reasons . for, our t various selections are palpable; to the layman a word or tAvo in justification may be necessary. Beginning, then, at the center of the line, whe have chosen McClintic of the navy. It seems to us the center of the middies conveys the quintessence of the centralization idea. A' frivolous associate suggests that we might as well give the place lo Kuropatkin for his Russian prowess, but we ignore the hint with the contempt it so richly deserves. Four guards there can be none to demur to the selection of General Stoessel. His defensive game at Port Arthur is the best seen this year. Franz Ebert, the Lilliputian, has the position of left guard. He may also be used as watch guard should occasion demand it. As to tackles, the choice is not difficult. President William R. Harper of the University of Chicago, whohas tackled John D. Rockefeller for repeated gains, gets the position of right tackle. To that sprightly gen tleman from Princeton, Grover Cle veland, is awarded the other tackle. He may use it to fish with. When it comes to the ends, Tom Taggart, of Indiana, and Parker, of Esopus, get both. Taggart claims that hitherto he has always got the short end, but this is no place to discuss such matters. Th position of quarter back is given to Russell Sage without explanation, because it's such an old joke. Hetty Green comes a close second very close, in fact. The best half back of the year is Roosevelt. He has made more phenomenal plays than anyone this sea son. He says he would rather be right half back than president, but there seems to be no reason why he shouldn't be both. Why Bryan, of Nebraska, is left deponent saith not. For full back we advance Admiral Rojestvensky of the Baltic , fleet. That's all. THE UMPIRE. HmUL Abomt U Bin Fr Severe Bittern Attack. BOTTLED SUNSHINE Scott's Emulsion brings sunshine to the entire system of the consumptive. All life is sunshine. The sun pouring its rays into the plant combines earth, water and air into new plant tissue. Sunshine stored up in the plant is its life. The animal changes plant tissue into animal tissue changes the stored Hp sunshine of plant life into animal life. Fat contains more sfored up sunshine than any other form of animal tissue. This is why Scott's Emulsion of pure cod liver oil is literally bottled sunshine, full of rich nourishment and new life for the consumptive. We'll send you a sample free upon request, SCOTT & BOWNE, 409 Fwl Street, New York.
WAR AGAINST WEEVIL. Shreveport, La., Dec. 12. Under brilliant auspices a congress of the cotton growing states and territories of the United States convened here today by invitation of the 'Louisiana Boll Weevil Association. Steps will be taken by the congress to control the boll weevil pleague and prevent its spread. The address of welcome was delivered by Governor Bl an ch ard of Louisiana, to which a res ponse was made by Governor Frarior of Tennessee. Among other distinguished speakers during the congress will be Secretary of Agricul ture James Wilson, Dr. W. D. Hun ter, of the United States Bureau of Entomology, Congressman Burleson, of Texas, and others. The committee, in issuing a call for the congress,, made the startling announcement that the flight of the weevil during the past summer increased fully 50 miles north and east into , territory hitherto uninfested, indicating a habit that is beyond the power of the individual states to control. The committee adds that danger threatens the cotton crop of this country. Beware of Ointments' forY, Catarrh That Contain Mercnhy. Hall's Family Pills are the best, as mercury will surely destroy the ponso of smell and completely derange the whole system when entering it through the mucuous surfaces. Such articles should never be used except on prescriptions from reputable physicians, as the damage they will do is, ten fold to the good you can possibly derive from them. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, O., contains no mercury, and is taken internally, acting directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. EARLBWINS AT BASKETBALL
TAKES HIGH SCHOOL INTO CAMP IN EAST FASHION QUAKERS HAVE GREAT TEAM They Roll Up Seventy-Four Points Against Crack High School Team. Saturday afternoon the Earlham basketball team overwhelmed the local-High School five by a score of 77 to 4. The Quakers were in splendid form and High School was never in the running for a minute. Most of the scoring by Earlham was made in the first period of play, the second period High School took a decided brace and held their adversaries down in better style. The game was spirited and rough in spots. Manford the big guard on High school, sprained his ankle in a fierce scrimmage and had to be taken out of thegame. Captain Decker made the only field goal for High School. Wilson for Earlham played a wonderful game at forward. After the game Manager Gennett said that High School was completely outclassed and predicted that Earlham would make a stir in college basketball circles this winter.
