Appearance. As the holidays approach the local

market receives daily some new ar

ticle pertaining to this season. Thursday holly, moss and other decorations were received and come from the Southern States.

The approach of the holidays, in

consistent as it' may seem, has little noticeable effect on the staples. Although there is the usual increase in

the volume of trade it is generally the fancy class of stuff, that has been neglected heretofore, that receives the calls at the approach of the glad

Bananas are coming into the mar

ket with considerable profusion. At

certain places an excellent quality

of fruit is purchasable at "ten cents per dozen. The reduction is believed

to be consistent, by commission men, inasmuch as the crop will not warrant the maintenance of high prices.

Things are moving slowly, com-

mission men say, except tnat tnere is

a very pronounced demand for fine fruit and fancy stuffs that will probably be prepared for holiday edibles. The importation of fancy stuffs is

greater at this time than any other period of the year.

Cruiser St. Louis Launched. Philadelphia, Pa., Dec. 10. The cruiser St. Louis will be launched here today at the shipyards of Neafle & Levy. The ceremony was witnessed by a large and enthusiastic crowd. Unusual interest attaches to the St. Louis because of the attempt made to destroy the ship by fee late in October. The flames were soon dis covered, but not, however, until they had done $30,000 worth of damage.
