"When Women Love." A great sensational melodramatic and scenic production is announced

at the New Phillips Saturday matinee and night. It is a play true to

life, entitled "When Women Love"

a story of absorbing1 interest and one

that applies to the heart. It is one

of those highly seasoned melodramas

that please the public. From the

outset until the close of the play which is in four acts, interest never

lags.

The play opens in the factory dis

trict of the great metropolitan, showing a large factory in full operation. In this act, the great mob scene tran

spires. It is said that this is one

or tne most realistic scenes ever

shown on the stage. The second act

nuuna inc lillci 1KJ l vf i 111c will 11 ward in the famous Blackwell's Is

land, New York. The third act is one that will be impressed upon the minds of all, as one of the most beau

tiful and natural of modern times.

The scene is the great garden fete at Til 1 1 .a T -w -

laiewiiu vma on trie Hudson, in

which grand scenic and electrical ef

fects are shown, combined with

sweet singing and entrancing music.

In the fourth act, the great trial

scene in the court room appears to be so natural and life-like that the audience is held spell-bound from start

to finish.

"When Women Love," although written upon melodramatic lines, is a play that is pure and sweet, and the story tells of the trials and tribulations of a working girl, who is

the victim of a dastardly plot. The

theme of the play is brief, is that of

a lawyer who is in love with this factory girl and asks her hand in mar

riage. He has a rival in another

young lawyer, and because he is re

jected, plans to revenge himself. In

connection with Eben Skinner, a mi

ser, they plan to fasten a crime upon

the girl. She is aided by her friends to escape after being arrested, and goes to her home where she finds

her mother dead; her death having

been hastened by a visit of the old

miser, who tried to force her mother

to give up certain papers relating to

a partnership . agreement. He re

turns to the house, and finding Madge, the factory girl, bending over

the lifeless body of her mother,

brings in the police and accuses her

of causing her mother's death. The girl is arrested, taken to prison, and is visited by the attorney who again

asks her to marry him. She again

refuses his proposal and he threat

ens to persecute her and bring her

to the electric chair. Her sweetheart

knowing she is innocent makes ev

ery effort for her release, and fail

ing in this, calls to aid a former de

tective who has turned up as a tramp

by having him re-instated on the de

tective force of the city. Through the efforts and clues of this detective

and two factory hands, the plans of the schemers are foiled, and they the real culprits are charged with the deeds. -A phonograph in which a conversation is recorded between

the old miser and his rascally neph

ew, is brought into the courtroom

and furnishes the missing link that

proves them to be guilty. The play

is in the hands of a most capable company, each being selected with

due resrard to the characters for

which they are best fitted. Pathos

and comedy alternate in this powerful drama, and are blended together

in such form that will make "When

Women Love," one of the most stir

ring dramas before the pubile today.

America's Greatest exponent of

C7 the piano, Tom Waters, and little

Lillian, the child actor are with this

company. "A Pair of Pinks."

Ward and Yokes musical frolic for

this, their eleventh year as fun mak

ers to the American people, will be

a new edition of "A Pair of Pinks."

It is in two acts, one of which is a Prison scene. This set presents the

private iail in which the "Twa

Pinks" incarcerate their victims, for

be it known "Pinks" in this in

stance means Pinkertons. Ward & Yokes are to show us two very wise detectives in their vehicle and their jail will be found to be the plot of the piece. Ping Pong rooms, automobile rooms and billiard cells are in profusion and the convicts are catered to as guests would be in a swell hotel. Every now and then the inhabitants of this unique institution break forth in gladsome song accompanied by the bewildering dances which belong, and then it is that the audience will be made glad that they are there. Fifty-five people are employed in the "Pinks" including a big chorus of more than forty. The

music is entirelv new. "A Pair of

Pinks" with Ward and Yokes will

be seen here at the Gennett Theatre Tuesday evening, Dec. 13th.

"Our New Man." There are times when it is good to

sit through a strong play of serious interest, times, too, when a comic opera acts like a nerve stimulant, but

probably nothing1 in the way of an

entertainment has such a real tonic

effect as a genuinely funny farce

which keeps an audience in a con

tinuous state of merriment for to

quote Lord Byron: "Merriment is

the sunny side of existence," and for that reason the heartiest of welcome should be acocrded Ilary Be resford, who has left in his wake

throughout the country of most glowing press reports of his excellent

work as a comedian of a high order.

He will offer his latest success, "Our New Man," which makes no preten

tions to be other than a farce of the most farcial character, but it has

this great advantage, it is mirth com

pelling from beginning to end and clean and pure in tone. "Our New Man" will be presented at the Gen

nett Theatre, Monday evening, Dec.

12th.
