Courage is a Matter of the Blood.

Without food red
blood a man has a weak heart and Boor nerves.
Anemia means thin
ness of blood. It is
common in men and Soun; women and all lose who work indoors.
who do not get enough outdoor air and good oxygen in their lungs. There are too many white blood corpuscles in such cases, and there is often a peculiar sound in th heart, called a murmur, in cases of anemia. This heart murmur is caused by thinness of the blood passing through the heart. The murmur of anemia disappears when the blood regains its natural consistency and richness. It is not heart disease. 8ometimes people suffer intense pain over the heart, which is not heart disease but caused by the stomach. It is the occasion of much anxiety, alarm and suffering, for which its victim is dependent upon reflex disturbances from the stomach caused by Indigestion. In the same way many bad coughs are dependent upon these reflex disturbances of what is called the pneumogmstric nerve. To enrich the blood and increase the red blood corpuscles thereby feeding the nerves on rich red blood and doing away with nervous irritability, take Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, Which promotes digestion and assimilation Of food so that the blood gets its proper supply of nourishment from the stomach. Get as near to nature's way as you can. A medicine made entirely of botanical extracts and which does not contain alcohol is the safest Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery contains no alcohol or narcotics. Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets are the best liver pills.

BIG VARIETY OF TOYS AND TRINKETS
Gifts For Chldren Crowd Richmond Stores and Toyland Has Turned Out Some Wonder ful Creations.
Richmond merchants are prepared to lend valuable assistance to Santa Claus ths year in filling the Christmas stockings of the boys and girls of Richmond and vicinity. The toys have nearly all arrived from Toyland and are being arranged attractively in the various bazaars of the city. There are many Christmas shoppers out already, and this week has seen many of the tempting pieces laid away until time for good old Saint Nick. This year it seems as if the manufacturers of toys had simply outdone themselves in trying to delight and amuse the children, and that there is nothing left to be desired. Dealers are especially proud of the large line of mechanical toys and indeed there seems to be everything from real little automobiles that will run, with rubber tires, and everything complete 1,000, to the cake-walking dog. The mechanical family includes a funny old clown that will beat a drum; the Boy Athlete, who swings dumbells so fast it makes him dizzy, a dancing bear and an educated horse, almost as good as the High School horse, wheh was one of the attractions of the Boar War; Pader-
ewski, the pianist, who plays classi
cal music on a tin piano and trains and engines enough to , content the
heart of any boy.
Furniture, that splendidly imitates and reproduces everythng to be found in the best modern home in the country has a prominent place in Toyland this year. There are refriger ators, sewing machines, lap-boards,
with measurements, smoothing irons
in fact, a little mother being fortun-
at enough to possess any or a great number of these wares would be unpardonable for not developing into
the best of mothers and the most ex
perienced of housewives.
There are dolls and dolls. Eaeh year sees some little improvement in the manufacture of dolls, until they have attained very life-like proportions, indeed. Since the first doll (was fashioned the doll industry has j passed through many stages of development and improvement. People
have now become so far-seeing that they not only want a doll that is pleasing to the eye, but one that is tangible to the touch, and the twentieth century toy answers bo.th requirements. Forty years ago a child whom Santa Claus brought an alabastar doll was a proud little mother indeed. The tov was then usuallv dressed in sy a showy costume and put in one corner of the front parlor, only to be brought down on state occasions then to be handled very carefully for fear of breaking. The dolls that will be sold in Richmond this year are con
structed with an eye to usefulness as well as beauty, and the little mothers can carry them around everywhere without fear of spoiling or breaking. One of the new holiday toys which is popular this year is -the Ilumpty Dumpty circus. Brave the soldiers, "sturdy and staunch," of all nationalities, have arrived in regiments, and are going to do their share to please the babies. There are many entertaining little games that have never been on the market before. One card game for the older boys and girls is "Down the Pike" taken from the St. Louis exposition. The new holiday books are now on sale and the list contains many of the latest copywrights. The "Marvelous Land of Oz" bids fair to become one of the most popular of
.holiday books. The illustrations are
such as a child can understand and the type is large and plain.
sary. A good man neighbor and friend has gone. Oran Sambert, a United States soldier who enlisted early last year and went to the Philippines, died something over a year ago. The body arrived at Losautsville station on Monday and was at once taken to his stepfather's, Thomas E. Dennis. His funeral is today at the house after which he will be taken to the brick church west of Hagerstown for burial.

Beware of Ointments for Catarrh
That Contain Mercuhy. Hall's Family Pills are the best.
as mercury will surely destroy the sense of smell and completely derange the whole system when entering it through the mucuous surfaces. Such articles should never be used except on prescriptions from reputable physicians, as the damage they will do is ten fold to the good you
can possibly derive from them.
Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co., Toledo, 0., contains no mercury, and is taken internally, acting directly upon the

It seems that winter is drawing very near with the earth apparently thoroughly dried out more than many of us ever saw. Wheat that was sowed certainly cannotsurvive this drouth. R. L.
