FINE PRESENTATION Warner .Anthony .Boss in .Enoch Arden. On Monday evening of this week, Nov. 21, Henry R. Slocum will, present to a Richmond audience at J Grace church, Warner Anthong! Ross, the world's greatest interpre-l ter of pathos, in a reading of Ten-! nysou's "Enoch Arden,' Anna Lee 1 Reagan at the piano, who will render the famous background composed for the poem by Richard Strauss.' Mr. Ross is a graduate of the school of Expression of Boston, and has had a practical experience both on stage and platform. "This beautifully pathetic story, the masterpece of the poet laureate, never appeals to one who reads it as it did to the listner, who heard it given last evening with truly artistic finish," says Ieulah Gadney Brown in the Columbus Republican, speaking of the recent production of "Enoch Arden" in
that city. "For an hour and twenty minutes .Mr. Ross held his audience, impressing every one with his magnetic presv'!!''1 ::d sole ful interpretation of the po 'jii. So pleasing were his descriptions recited that the audience followed him through every scene and situation and regretted when the last word was spoken.
Probably the most beautiful passage was Enoch Arden 's prayer that God might give him strength never to let Annie know of his return, which he
gave with such intense feeling that
his listeners were moved to tears.
His audience was charmed with his
ease and grace his radiant expres
sion and his exquisitely modulated voice. With other than a truly cul
tured and artistic reader and pianist
Enoch Arden could never be success
fully given.
