Each seriously ill, the one in Chicago and the other in Paris, separated by thousands of miles of earth and sea, James S. Gibbs and his wife are keeping daily communications with each other by means of cablegrams of sympathy and condolence. Mr. Gibbs, who is the vice president of the Illinois Trust and Savings bank, is at his home, 400 Superior street, in the North division, Avhere he is suffering from acute cirrhosis of the liver. lie is attended by his daughter, Mrs. Adolph lioeago, who is unremitting in her attention for his comfort. Each Thinks Only of Other. Mrs. Gibbs is at the home of another daughter in Paris, where she sustained a stroke of paralysis some time since, from which she is not ex- ; pec-fed to recover. Knowing the condition each of the other, they have given up all hope of meeting again in this world and are trying to alleviate the last days with words of good cheer and courage flashed across the weary miles of air and under the impatient' leagues of sea between them. Their devotion is constant, and their mos sages exchanged dailv do much to sustain them. Neither Expected to Live. Mr. Gibbs first learned of the seri ousness of his condition three months ago, when he became confin ed to his bed, but until assured that he could not hope to see- his wife again lie allowed her to know nothing about it.
