HORSE AND TURF Notes of Interest to Those .Who Enjoy the Sport. ' ' New York, October 30. Edward J. Power, well known to turfmen the country over, died at the 'home of his sister in Paterson,N; J., on Wednesday, after a long siege of illness. As a turf writer he won the friendship not alone of his workmates, but

of all whose interest in the sport was of the right sort. As an official he had the respect of owners and trainers, riders and the others that go to make up the details of a race meeting. Lung troubles sent him to Colorado three years ago, but while there he followed closely from day to day the doings of the sport in all parts of the world. About a month ago he was advised to go home, and he came.ta Paterson. A couple of uavs before the end he said in a let

ter to the writer, while he realized how serious his erudition was, he believed that when spring rolled around he would bo able to go up and down the line, East and West,

using his pencil as of old, to tell of great contests between the equine stars of which he had read.
