HE SAYS THERE IS NO CHANCE OF WABASH MEETING METHODISTS.

SAYS THEY ARE MUCKERS

And Also Makes Charge of Professionalism Claims the Championship.

Yesterday morning while Coach Cayou of the Wabash football team stood watching his chances to mn through light signal practice at the South Tenth Street Park he was asked if there was any possibility of De Pauw playing Wabash for the secondary championship of the state. Mr. Cayou smiled. "Certainly rit" lie replied. "What claim have they on the championship V ' The only it cam they have played is Earlham. Notre Dame, Indiana and Purdue have refused to play because of the teputation they have o f being "muckers" and we have turned them down on the same ground. The Wabash, faculty has several all athletic relations with DePauw for the reason that our fellows have never met the Methodists but what they started trouble, acting both on and off the field in an unsportsmanlike manner. Another reason why we will not meet the Methodists is because their reputation for professionalism is too unsavory. Last year' in baseball they raised a kick because we had a colored man on the nine. One of their players who was kicking the loudest was suddenly brought to time by a newspaper man, who formerly was a manager of a professional baseball team, he walked upto this player and before a large crowd said, 'what are you howling about, don't you remember last year when I gave you ten dollars for playing a game on my team, he walked up to this player and ondary championship .this afternoon in ease we defeat Earlham and I do not believe there will be another college in the state that will dispute our claim to the honor, save DePauw."

Better Than Pills. The question has been asked In what way are Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets superior to the ordinary cathartic and liver pills t Our answer is They are easier and more pleasant to take and their effect is so gentle and so agreable that one hardly realizes that it is produced by a medicine. They not only move the bowels but improve the appetite and aid the digestion. For sale at 25 cents per bottle by A. G. Luken & Co., and W. H. Sudhoff, corner Fifth and Main streets.

WHY THE "DOUBTFUL STATES ARE FOR ROOSEVELT. The Democratic campaign managers are very much nonplused over the great confidence shown not only by Republicans, but by the people rnd press in general as to the outlook on November 8th. They Avonder why it is that certain states are now in

the "sure Roosevelt" column. The answer to the question is very simple. For instance, the wage earners in such states as New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, and of West Virginia and Indiana, which States are sometimes considered as debata

ble ground, are almost unanimously in favor of the re-election of Roosevelt and the continuance of a protective tariff, which for seven years has given them full employment and high wages. No abuse of our President, no slander against the administration, and no attack upon any of our puplic officers has any influence whatever upon such men, who so vividly recall the ruinous days under O rover Cleveland and the last Democratic administration.

These millions of men are thinking of their homes, of their wives and children, first, last and all the time. They are thinking of their country, their state and their neighborhood.

and the mental comparison which they make between the condition of

affairs now and eight years ago is the greatest campaign argument that can be placed before them. That is why

the States of New York, New Jer-

sey. Connecticut, west Virginia ana

Indiana are going to give large plu-

n lities for Roosevelt. For the same

reason, the States of Montana and Idaho and Utah and Nebraska and Wyoming, as well as those on the Pacific Coast are also going to give large pluralities for Roosevelt simply because the people of these States want a continuation of the prosperity which has come to, them during the past seven years under the administrations of MeKinley and Roosevelt. The fact of the matter is 4 hat there is no sure State for Parker today except the solid South, with its 151 votes, and many of these ttates would be in the Roosevelt column were a fair vote cast and counted.

Helen Keller. Helen Gould and Em

ma Booth-Tucker Miss Keller's Trip Through the Agricultural Building. World's Fair Special Correspondence St. Louis October 27. " Iwoulda 't have missed that treat for agreat deal j it was the most interesting episode in my experience, said Chief Frederick W. Taylor of the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, after piloting Helen Keller, the famous blind and deaf mute, through the Agricultural building, the other day. Mr. Taylor has piloted a great many distinguished personages through the big palace on the hill but none was ever so interesting or so appreciative as Miss Keller. Although deprived of those channels of information through which the most of mankind acquires a knowledge of things about us with all the beauties and wonders of the exposition shut out by a curtain of never-ending darkness, she evinced the greatest interest in the exhibits and the greatest eagerness to learn all about them. What was more remarkable than this cstonishing knowledge of the country's geography and if its agricultural products which her comments disclosed. Everything that Mr. Taylor said about the exhibits was quickly communicated to her by her faithful interpreter, Miss Sullivan, through the "sign language" which hi this instance seemed to be nothing more than a gentle pressure or manipulation of her hand. She not only knew what states produced certain products but evinced extraordinary knowledge of the products. While in the Missouri section Mr. Taylor placed her hands upon one of those big Missouri watermelons. She ran her hands all over it and quickly exclaimed, "A watermelon; Why don't you cut it?" And yet the eyes of this wonderful woman never beheld a watermelon. After coming out of the building she declared it was the most interesting experience of her life to visit the Fair. Perhaps, after all

this was due to Mr. Taylor ?s unusual J tact, for he took her through the j building as he would take any other

bright, educated person through, not

appearing at any time to notice her disabilities. The Fair this week is honored by the presence of another distinguished woman, quite as remarkable and interesting in her way, as Miss Keller, but fortunately in the possession of all her faculties, wsich she uses for the benefit of the race, particularly for the elevation of womankind. She came especially to celebrate "Young Women's Christian Association Day" and incidentally to see the Fair. I think I have discovered the secret of Miss ' Gould's power. She is not a speech-maker and like most silent persons who lead great move

ments of our times, she has great executive ability and rare capacity for organization. If there is talking to be done it must be done by others. She is too busy to make speeches. Many receptions and meetings were planned for her and it was announc-
