It is just a common cold, people say, here's no danger in that Admitting their statement, then there are uncommon colds, f elds which are dangerous; for many a iital sickness begins with a cold. If we ccnld tell the common cold from the unt emmon we could feel quite safe. But we isn t. The uncommon variety is rarely secognized tntil it has fastened its hold on the lungs, and there are symptoms of consumption. At the first symptoms the careful person ill heed the warning by taking a mild Mutative ; some vegetable pill that will not disturb the system or cause griping. About the best is "Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets." )f the cold starts with a cough, and it j.erf ists then some local treatment for this condition should be taken. A well known alterative extract, which has been highly recommended by thousands of users, is t Dt. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery. For People Who Eat Hurriedly and Chew Their Food on the Way To Their Work.
There is a lady in this city who boasts that she can eat anything with out injury to her. Last week she (old her husband she ate something that didn't agree with her. Her husband replied, that was no surprise, for he could never do that himself , A certain colored man, when he read about the Democrats buying votes said: "I hain't seen none of the color of that old Democrat money. Who's got it? They better not ccmc around me pestikatin, or I'll make 'em look like a quarter shin plaster.
KA fellow needn't feel stuck up just because lie sat in a glue pot. It seems strange, but it is true nevertheless. A fellow said the other day that this thing of praying was going out of style." Two gentlemen had an animated discussion in front of the Palladium office last evening. The subject was the Russian Japanese war. The first speaker said he thought General Lioa Yang was far superior to Mukden. The second man took exception to that and said he had more confidence in Kuroki. "Mukden may be all right," said ho, but he's not in it with Shakhe. Thus we see the generals and the names of cities are mistaken for each other. There's only one banshee left who is doing business, for the rest are all dead. This one flies about day and night lighting on women's ear lobes and whispering, whispering like the wind rounding te eaves. Sometimes she tickles them in the corners of their eyes and teardrops come. Again she sends an icy finger to their throats and gives them the creepychills. But she goes on doing business all the time, never losing a moment and taking in all the world on her swift journeys. The lady-banshee's name is "They say." Sometimes she foretells death the death of reputation.

League of America, recognizing the vital importance to our country of the permanent establishment of the
Gold Standard and of a sound monetary system based thereon as the underlying chord of our prosperity,
urges, not only upon all Gold Democrats but upon all friends of honest money the necessity for their sup port in this campaign of the only candidate Avhose electron will give assurance of such establishment. Since 1900 we have, as Democrats, indulged the hope that the Democratic party would, in 1904, renounce the heresies the adoption of which
in 1S9C forced us to sever our rela Hons with our party. But the action of the St. Louis convention in refusing recognition of the Gold
standard and the declaration of that body, and of the party leaders and
the press, that "the money question is settled and therefore not an issue," convince us that our work is still unfinished. The absolute abandonment of the Free Silver doctrine
is essential to the preservation of our National honor and prosperity. The mere declaration of Judge Tarker that he considers the Gold Standard irrevocably established does not assure us that he favors it and will not abandon such standard, if later experience shows that it can be doue. Interpreted impartially his declaration must be held as sincere and consistent with his conviction that the silver standard should be adopted, as indicated by his twice supporting the candidate for the presidential office upon that platform. If elected, therefoi-e, Judge Parker may in perfect good faith say that he has discovered that the Gold Standard is not irrevocably established and therefore a change to what he deems the more desirable policy the Silver Standard should be made. Therefore this organization, composed of business men of Democratic faith, who hold country above party as the first and highest duty of the citizen, in the interest of the great cause which eight years ago separated us from old party associations, ask the men of 1S9G to again stand with us, in this campaign for National honor and safety, and honest money, supporting Theodore Roosevelt for the Presidency. The establishment and maintenance of a sound, safe and adequate monetary system, vitally essential as it is to National prosperity, is not and should not be allowed, to be a political question, much less a partisan one. It 'is one of economics. And our support of a partr and its candidate must be given, not be-! cause they are Republican or Democratic, but solely because of their attitude toward that question, and the assurance thereby afforded of what action may be expected from them. Measuring both parties by their record during the past eight years, we hold that the only hope for the accomplishment of our aim is through the Republican party, which recognizes the fact that there
is yet much to be done toward that end. The record of the Democratic
arty throughout that period is one
of either active opposition to, or
negative acknowledgement of, what has been so far done and what we are striving to accomplish.
Theodore Roosevelt has not only
declared it to be his conviction that
the Gold Standard should be maintained, but has assisted in procuring
egislation to that end. There can
be no doubt as to his attittude on
his question, which affects, more
than anv other, the welfare of the
country. Even if the other issues sought to be introduced by his op
ponents were supported by evidence,
their importance must be deemed
elatively slight as compared with
the maintenance of a monetary system that assures absolute safety to citizens of all classes. It is an un
questionable fact that there is a
large element in this country which believes in the Silver Standard, and
that between the accomplishment of
their designs and the welfare and
credit of the American people stands
only Theodore Roosevelt. It must also be remembered that a sound
money Congress is necessary to the success of our cause, and in the
contest now being waged great care
should be taken that only men pled
ged to support the Gold Standard and necessarv monetarv reform are
elected. With the old spirit of 1890 let us again rally to the support of the flag of Honest Money, as represented in this campaign by Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt not as a Republican, but as a man of convictions and of the courage to maintain thorn. The Democratic Honest .Money '-League of America. JOHN BYRNE. President.
