John Pierce, assistant to President Shaeffer, of the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers, has been nominated for Congress . by the Democrats in the south side district of Pittsburg. Structural Iron Workers are voting upon a proposition to change the headquarters of the international from New York to some other city. Cleveland and Chicago are the leading candidates with New York still in the running. Secretary Kellington, of the International Union of Flour and Cereal Mill Employes, has received word from New York that thirteen out of the sixteen flour firms whose workmen were on strike have signed a contract with the union. Wilkesbarre (Pa.l Building Trades Council is perfecting arrangements to form a co-operative association for taking building contracts. This is an outcome of the rcrvnt lockout of union carpenters 'because of their refusal to consent t tlie open sho'p. -55-Efforts to bring about closer alliance between the printers and the commercial telegraphers' unions have met with fair success during the conventions of the last summer. Now the railroad and commercial telegraphers' organizations are talking negoliations, so that a close atliiiati0n may result. -Jf Railroads have refused to reduce the rates to San Francisco, Cal., for delegates to the national meeting of the A, F. of L., to be held on November 14 in that city. Frank Morrison, secretary of the organization, has filed a complaint with the Interstate Commerce Commission, alleging discrimination. Samuel Ciompers has sent a letter to the Chicago Federation of Labor declaring that, unless the latter organization complies with the rules of the American Federation of Labor by the first of next month, it will be tsNpcJJpd.
