What Women Will Do.
It is not a very far cry from Charles Dickens to Melodrama when you come to think of it, and there need.be no surprise consequently' upon the announcement that What; Women Will Do, which comes to the Gennett next Friday, is based upon the fitory of David Coppejrfield. Wilkins Mfeawber as played by Harry Jackson, the author of the play, Rosa Dottle, Em'ly Peggotty and Uriah Keep will be the leading characters. The play as announced is one of the novelties of tho season, possessing both strength and interest. The scene effects are elaborate in extreme. The comedy element in

trodncd by the Micawber family, espeeially the two oldest children, Wilkins, Jr., and Ella, as played by Miss Alice Barry and Miss Sidney Pearl is excruciatingly funny, ajid elicits applause of laughter at every per formance. During: the action of the play a new song; entitled, What Women Will Do, will be introduced. The song; was written, and presented to Mr. Jackson for his play by George Evans, better known as "Honey Boy" author of the "In the Good Old Summer Time" and many other popular f-ongs. The title and story of the play suggested the song to Mr. Evans, and it promises to become as popular as his other efforts. c X -AMoore's Superha. Stewart and Raymond, musical artists, wiih Moore's Superba, which will be presented at the Gennett Theatre on Tuesday evening of this week are conceded to be one of the fineest musical teams on the vaudeville stage at the present time. Mr. Moore having obtained their services at a very high salary. Several other well known vaudeville' artists are also included in the company such as Frank and Ida Williams, black face .impersonators, The Mack Sifters in the latest songs and dances, Miss Jennie Mack a charming Soubrette, and several others. The performance is something new and entirely different from other shows and is not a pantomime show on the order of Hanlon's Superba, but a strictly line entertainment consisting of fashionable vaudeville, farce com edy and high class specialties The famous Moore's concert band cousistiu'jr of sixteen solo artists, will give a grand street parade at noon, also a free concert in front of the theatre in the evening. Do not miss seeing the parade and hearing the free concert. "Way Down East." Box office predictions index an extraordinary large business for "Way Down East," which will be given at the Gennett Theatre on Thursday evening, October 20th. The piece will be presented here by the same big company and wil . be

as at thd Academy of Music, New York City. The ' story of "Way Down East," concerning a girl whose love ruins her life, and whom love brings back to life, is familiar to all. It is a story human it its humor and doubly human in its pathos. The simple tale is told iii the most engaging manner, episodes of a genuine interest incidents of a memorable novelty, and situations of real strength following each other in rapid succession. The character drawing of the p'r? is so excellent that once seen it is never forgotten Memory at once recalls at tbe mere mention of "Way Down East" tlie eccentricities, absentmindedness and humaneness of Prof. Sterling, the butterfly catching suitor .of dimpled Kate Brewster; Hi Hi Holler, the Pickwickian chore-boy with a fondness for "Pickings From Puck," Rube Whipple, the town constable, who "has his eye" on evildoers, ami who does that famous songand dance "stunt" "All Bound Rcim' With a Woolen String," Martha Perkins, the glib-tongued village gossip, and the various other characters woven into the plot. There is no straining for effect in this drama. Its people are distinctly human, and the things they do will be, done similarly by the averageman and woman placed in a similar environment. The consequence is that the spectators have but to con- i suit their owii hearts to determine the coming twists and turns of the plot. The great moral lesson taught by the drama is as powerfully illustrated and as effective as ever, while Phoebe Davies' original creation of Anna Moore, the wronged heroine, possesses the same heart interest now as heretofore. All other members of the company, too. seem to fit their part, and the parts fit them as the proverbial glove. "Wife in Name Only." "Wife in Name Only," the original number one, New York Comedy billed to appear at The Xew Phillips Wednesday matinee and night is described as a startling comedy in four acts, and is regarded as one of the cleverest pJays ever produced. It pictures domestic life in the Long Island rural districts, as Avell as the many sided phases of Metropolitan existence in the great city. It is-re plete with incidents and climaxes of an original and thrilling character; there are also delightful touches of higher dramatic light and shade. It appeals to many classes, and is pleasing to all. Each act is a most beaut iful set stare picture, and a model in its respective line. J lie east is com posed of representative artists, and includs many favorites in their various roles, arnoncr "which mijrht he mentioned the finished and natural younr actor. Mr. Garland Gadeu. and the favorite simrinjr souhrette. Miss Laura Lorraine.
