AMERICAN BOYS IN OLD OXFORD

CECIL RHODES SCHOLARSHIP HOLDERS ASSIGNED FORTY THREE BRIGHT BOYS Representing Every State and Territory Except Five AdmittedOne Note of Discord. Oxford, Eng., October 12. The first recipients of the Cecil Rhodes scholarships entered English University life yesterday at the evening of Oxford term, America was repre sented by forty-three students, every 1 State and Territory being represent ed except Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, Nevada and New Mexico, whose candidates did not qualify in the American examinations. The Ameri1.1 j cans are scattered tnrougn seventeen colleges. They were generally eordiallv welcomed, the only discordant note occurring at Kible college, where they refused to receive Mr. Murray, of Kansas, because he was not a member of the church of England. All the Americans are expected to shine in a scholastc way and some of them in athletic life, especially Schutt of Cornell, who is likely to lower the British lonsr distance running rec ords. Murray a Diligent Student. Kansas Cit', Mo., October 12. Eugene Murray, Avho has been refused admission to Kible college, at Oxford, on account of non-membership in the Episcopalian church, was a student of Kansas University, giving Bartlesville, Indian Territory, as his home, lie never attended church much, a former college chum says, because he devoted all his spare time to tutoring or doing other work to earn his way through college and felt that Sunday should be a day of rest for him. One of ihe two Indiana students to whom the .Rhodes scholarship was awarded is George E. Hamilton, of this city, a former student at Earlham College. "To Die At Dawn.' Comes to the Gennett Theatre on next Friday evening. Kentucky has furnished the scenes of a vast number of melodramas some of which have gained no little fame and furnished amusement for an " army of theatre goers. "To Die At Dawn," which is the coming. attraction at the Gennett Theatre is justly entitled to take its place in the ranks of the many successful plays that are based on material furnished by the Blue Grass state. The piece is in four acts, and was written by the well known author and actor, E. Lawrence Lee, whose efforts to get away f'-om the usual streotyped form of melodrama, are plainily visible in the many original and startling novHtr', soenically, mechanically and in the lines of the play itself, which are introduced during the progress of the play. A well constructed plot with just enough pathos and comedy makes the play a highly pleasing one to all class es of theatre goers. The scenes laid in the mountains naturally give a grand opprtunity for picturesque scenery, which fact has been taken advantage .of, and a scenic equipment lavish in the exx'treme is shown. Perhaps the most striking scenes of the production are the old mill in the mountains and the stalactite chambers of the Mammoth cave. The latter, with its great masses of spark" ling crystals hanging from roof and wall, being exteremely beautiful. Miss Elsie Crescy. for whom the play was written, is seen in th epart of Nellie Mil ward, the heroine, and is an actress wonderful emotional abilty. her interpretation of the exacting and difficult role being splendidly handled. The author herself will be seen as George Drake, the villian. while the supporting company is a large and capable one. HOME SEEKERS' EXCURSIONS. There was a steady aching pain through my loins and I could not rest comfortably during the night. The secretions became irregular and unnatural. I tried a great many different remedies, but received no benefit until seeing Doan's Kidney Pills highly recommended I bought a box at A. G. Luken 's drug store and used them.
