AMUSEMENTS. "A Chinese Honeymoon." "A Chinese Honeymoon" will appear here on next Saturday evening, at the Geuntt theater. It is the work of George Dance, who wrote the book and lyrics, and Howard Talbot, who is responsible for the music. Its plot, which is interesting and clearly defined, follows the adventures of an Englishman, Samuel Pineapple, and his bride who go to Ylang Ylang on their Konej'moon. The bride, being extremely jealous, insists upon taking her bridesmaids along to watch her husband. Arriving in Ylang Ylang, Georgia Bryton. the husband being too pronounced in his admiration for the Princess Soo Soo, arouses his wife's ire, and she for revenge flirts with aChinaman who is smitten with her charms." It happens that this Chinaman is Hang Chow, the Emperor of Ylang Ylng, who is in search of a wife; and when he kisses her, the caress, according to local law, is a bethrothal and a mar riage must take place the same day. Mr. Pineapple deepens the difficulty by kissing the Princess and thus there are two betrothals and two weddings imminent. From this situation a number of complications are developed and plenty of fun is extracted from the mix-up before matters are finally straightened out. As an accompaniment to this diverting though by means of cumbersoms story, Mr. Talbot has furnished some excellent music which ripples along in pleasant style. "Why Girls Leave Home." Evervbodv is talking about the Logansport case," and interest in the coming engagement of Vance & Sullivan's great play, "Why Girls Leave Home" is gaining daily. The play was presented last season at the Gennett theater and was one of the best attractions booked. This time it comes to the New Phillips, Mon day, September 26. The advance sale will open at 9 o'clock Friday morning at Nixon's. "My Sweetheart." While the big crowd predicted for the New Phillips last night did not materialize, the play "Tennessee's Pardner," was greatly enjoyed by those present. Pathos and comedy were happily blended and the Brandon Evans Stock company proved good all through the four acts of the play. The specialties by Jack Muiree, Hayward and Hayward and Alda and Armour were all good and received merited applause. Qave the Doukhobors a Wrong Impression of His Being. Rosthem. N. W. T., Sept. 21. Doukhobors, the Russian religious fanatics who are settled in this district in large numbers, have created the greatest excitement among the ' Canada settlers by once more leaving their agricultural pursuits and starting on a pilgrimage in search of the Messiah. On hearing of the great overland ride LORD MINTO. being made by Lord Mlnto from Bat tleford to Saskatoon, accompanied by a mounted guard of police and much military pomp, they decided that this man who was inspiring such respect from ths Canadians, must be the Mes si ah for whom they had been waiting. and Immediately started on one of their pilgrimages. Several of them were promptly arrested by the police here and housed in a vacant building. Farmer Bsaetged by Negroes. Savannah, Ga., Sept. 21. The house of J. B. Bennett, a prominent farmer,) two and a half miles from Screven, In, Wayna county, was flred into by ne! groes and one of his nephews received a bullet in the 'crown of his hat. Sheriff Overstreet;" with two bloodhounds, spent the night in the vicinity of the Bennett home and made an effort to catch the marauders but failed. The home of Bennett is virtually in a state of siege. He has been warned that he is a "marked man," and his neighbors have been called upon to protect him. A Flourishing Institution. Montgomery, Ala., Sept. 21. State Examiner Sedberry has filed his report with the governor on the accounts and vouchers of Warren Logan, the treasurer of Tuskegee Normal and industrial institution, of which Booker T. Washington is president. Everything was found correct and the examiner said the institution was in a flourishing condition. The endowment fund of the institution amounts to $1,030,553. The valuation of personal and real property is $686,379. Evaded His Captors. Fort Scott, Kan., Sept. 21. Henry Miller, alias Kelly, who held up a gambling house in Springfield, Mo., and who was arrested in Kansas City, Jumped from the window of a 'Frisco passenger car near here, escaping from a policeman who was taking him back to Springfield. Miller, still manacled, was captured on the track by four farmers. He broke away from them, threw himself in front of an approaching train and was instantly killed. Probable Murder Revealed. Auburn, Ind., Sept. 21. Five years ago Jasper Matthews mysteriously disappeared and nothing was heard of him until this week, when his skeleton was found on the shore of Hamilton lake by a surveying party. A rusty revolver was found by his side, by means of which the skeleton was idenitfied. Foul play was suspected at the time he disappeared and many now believe he was murdered. Three Victims of Murder. Sterling, 111., Sept. 21. The bodies of three men who had evidently been murdered were found In the Merldocia swamp, a dismal locality twenty-eight miles from Sterling. There was nothing on the bodies to identify the men, who apparently were laborers. The bodies evidently had been in the swamp for some time. Mission Holds the Crowds. Bolton, Eng., Sept. 21. The attendance at the mission here of the American evangelists Reuben A. Torrey and C. M. Alexander; has been unprecedented. On Saturday and Sunday 27,000 persons attended the meeting.
