SEEKING LAND THAT IS CLAIMED FOR HIS WIFE. IN HEARTOF KOKOMO Three Acres Used For a Cemetery Now a City Park Law Suit. Anderson, Ind., Sept. 19. John C. Hardesty, for many years the editor of The Herald, and now a resident of Dayton, O., is in the city. He has returned to Indiana on an interesting mission, which may result in himself and wfe securing possession of a valuable tract of land in the rentral part of Kokomo. Mr. Hardesty was at the Doxey last night and he confirmed the following dispatch from Kokomo : " Kokomo 's old cemetery, the scant three acres that cradles the dust of many of the pioneers of the city, is in a fair way to become the object of contention in a lawsuit. The city has grown up all around the old burial bround and the space it occupies has become of considerable value. This fact has led to the preliminary steps being taken to have the place restored to a private holding in the name of an heir of the man who was the original grantor. J. O. Hardesty and wife, of Anderson, arrived in Kokomo Thursday, and are now preparing to institute proceedings to procure for Mrs. Har desty title to and possession of the grounds embraced in what is knoAvn as the Old cemetery. Mrs. Hardesty was a daughter of the late T. J. Falkner, the man who deeded the ground to the commissioners of Howard county nearly sixty yetirs ago for cemetery purposes. It is clcaimed by Mr. Hardesty and by attorneys who have looked into the records, that the deed from Falkner to the commissioners contained a clause to the effect that the ground should be used for burial purposes and no other. Mrs. Hardesty 's con tention is that whenever the grounds were yiven over to any other use than that expressly provided for in the deed, the title reverted to the original grantor or his heirs. ' A Prompt Headache Cure. Probably no form of suffering is so general as that caused by headache. The value of time lost through this complaint is something stupendous. If you are subject to headache from overwork or mental exhaustion throb bing or splitting headache, nervous headache, or headache caused by indigestion you should seek relief before the trouble becomes chronic. Phen-a-mid Tablets are an invaluable remedy for all forms of this trouble. They are prescribed by hundreds of reputable physicians throughout the country, and are used extensively in hospital practice. Phen-a-mid Tablets contain no injurious drug and never depress or weaken the heart. They may be safely administered by anyone. Phen-a-mid, the great pain destroyer, is a positive and speedy cure for headache and all forms of pain, ineluding neuralgia, backache, rheumatism, sciatica and is very efficient in all cases of colds, chills and fevers. No family can afford to be without a bottle of Phen-a-mid in the house. 25 cents at the druggist's, or by mail from the manufacturers, Osborn-Col-well Co., 46 Cliff street, New York. 1 EDUCATIONAL DAY Report of Earlham College Shows Prosperity. Plainfield, Ind.. September 19. Saturday was educational dav at yearly meeting, and from all sections have come the leaders who have the education of Quaker youth in their keeping. In all their migrations from one part of the country to another, the Friends, as soon as they reached their destination, immediately erected a meetng-honse with a school building adjacent to it. The most important educational institution under the care of Western and Indiana Yearly Meetings is Earlham College, and the a-nnual report of Earlham, read by President Robert L. Important Business Session. One of the most important business sessions of the Western Yearly Meeting was that of the morning, when reports of the evangelistic and church extension committee and on the Earlham Bible societies were read. Stout, of Plainfield; David Hartley, of Danville; William L. Pyle, of Indianapolis; Charlotte Yickers, of Chicago, and Martha E. Newlin, of Westfield. The annual report of this committee was encouraging. It showed an increase of 70 per cent, during the last year in the home mission work, and it was found that thirty-seven young men and women had announced themselves as ready to go into the ministry. A score of speakers, including Allen Jay of Richmond commended the Avork of the Earlham Bible Society, and it was announced that at the next institute every meeting in the yearly meeting should be represented in the institute.
