STILL LIVES
Although Doctors Said He Could Not Survive. Harrodsburg, Ky., September 14. John Gritton who lives in the western section of this county, believes firmly in the interposition of tie Man of Gal ilee. Some 10 years gao he began to increase in weight until he pulled the beam at 400 pounds, and was continuing to increase until it was feared that he would suffocate because of his excessive weight. Hi s physicians three years ago told him that he could not live much longer. Gritton thereupon called on his pastor and arranged with him to preach his funeral sermon. He also visited an undertaker and negotiated for the coffin because of his phenomenal size. Being a man of strong religious convictions, he stipulated carefully the details of his obsequies. After having made all arrangements and when he had resigned himself to his apparently inevitable fate, there was what he termed a Divine intervention. Surprised at Twilight. One evening three months ago, as the shades of twilight were gathering, and there seemed to be a gloom in the house, both probably meditating on what seemed certain doom, the door opened without a knock and there appeared unheralded before a tall, lank man, who said to Mr. Gritton: "1 am sent of God to come here and cure you." Mr. Gritton replied: ''Would to God you could!" The visitor replied: "Not I, but the One "who sent me." The mysterious stranger called for a porringer, filled it with water-and placed it on the coals before the fire. In this he placed his hands, and the water could be seen bubbling between his fingers, for it had reached the boiling point. . The healer never flinched, though his hands remained for some time n the boiling water. After a time the stranger took his hands from the heated water and anointed the head of Mr. Gritton. He also opened the patient's shirt collar and bathed his chest with the pure water. After he had performed his mission he pro nounced his benediction on Mr. Gritton. The latter asked him to abide for the night, but he departed, leaving neither his name nor residence. Began to Improve. Immediately after this incident Mr. Gritton began to improve and reduce in flesh. He now weighs about 195 pounds, and is in good condition. - The physician who told him he would die in 10 days, the minister who hab been engaged to preach the funeral and the undertaker who made his coffin have each passed to their eternal reward, but the subject of the alleged special dispensation lives in good health, with his coffin stored away in ari upstairs room. Mr. Gritton is a prosperous 'farmer, and if the stranger who cured him will make known his identity he will no doubt receive a large reward for his benefaction. Your Stomach. , When the quantity of food taken is too large or the quality too rich, sour stomach is likely to follow and especially so if the digestion has been weakened by constipation. Eat slowly and not too freely of easily digested food. Masticate the food thoroughly. Let five hours elapse between meals, and when you feel a fullness and a weight in the region, of 'the stomach after eating, take Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets and the sour stomach may be avoided. For sale by A. G. Luken & Co, and W. II. Sudhoff, Fifth and Main streets. II William Buxton and Family Meet With an Accident. Mr. and Mrs. William Buxton, of Darke county, Ohio, arrived in Richmond last evening about C:45 en route to Hartsville, Indiana. They were going overland in a small two-seated contrivance- Besides, the above mentioned parlies there were .four children and enough goods to start a country "store. When near Seventh street onMain one of the whee's broke down and the party had to remain here for quite a while until a wheel could be secured. Quite a number witnessed the acident and no one expressed surprise at the breakdown. The i only real occasion for wonder was how so many persons could be accommodated in the rig.
