There was really no apology to be wife! well, hardly. He hasn't anymade for his presence in the village, thing tangible. All that he' was ever
For years he sat on the corner during the day when the weather was fine , : .1-. lie sought out a certain saloon. It was very necessary for him to sit somewhere, and his choiee was either a street corner or a saloon. In his
youth he attended school long enough mouthed, and loathsome he is allowto learn to "chaw" tobacco and to ed to sit on street corners, in door
spit at a crack and that was about all he did learn. From lack of enough exercise to get up a sweat his body became' dwarfed and knarled, and he didn't look as good as thirty per cent, on a Confederate bank note. In his pocket he carried a package of saloon cards on the backs of which was pnnted "choice" poetry of the vulgar sort. These he would take from his pocket occasionally and look over them with a sickly smile, one of those smiles that would throw a milch cow into hysterics. If one of his ilk would happen to pass along he would call to them to sit awhile and read some of his "potrv." Then he would resume an air of self-con(ent and throw himself back against the wall of the building assuming an attitude possessed only by one who had a controlling share in the Standard Oil company. "Has he a wife," some one ventured to ask of a pedestrian. "A EATON. H. B. Fox was in Dayton Saturday. The following invitations were re ceived by a large number of persons in Eaton Friday: At home, Mrs. John Eberly Parker, Wednesday, Septem ber 7, from 3 to 5. The Preble county fair will be held next week beginning Monday and last the entire week. Eaton needs a village improvement society which will put in good shape the ragged and objectionable places in the town. Many streets would be improved if the owners would keep their lawns cut and the weeds cut down along the gutters. The merchants should take enough pride to keep the 'empty boxes away from in front of their places of business. Citizens who have the interests of the village at heart would do well to form a improvement society for the purpose of making the village of Eaton more attractive. S. J. Sampson, Newport Our daughter was pale and sickly. Gave her Hollister's Rocky Mountain Tea. Now she's rosy cheeked, healthy and happy. 35 cents, Tea or Tablets. A. G. Luken & Co. Tragedy Averted. ' "Just in the nick of time our little boy was saved" writes Mrs. W. Watkins of Pleasant City, Ohio. "Pneumonia had played sad havoc with him and a terrible cough set in besides. Doctors treated him, but he grew worse every day. At length we tried Dr. King's New Discovery for Consumption, and our darling was saved. He's now sound, and well." Everybody ought to know, it's the only sure cure for Coughs, Colds and all Lung diseases. Guaranteed by A. G. Luken & Co., druggists. Price 50c and $1.00 Trial bottle free. Covered with filth from head to foot, blear-eyed, bewhiskered, foul ways, in the gutters and around pub lie buildings. He is never disturbed Children going to church and school observe him and wonder what manner of man he is! Can these children be inspired by thet presence of this kind of character? Does he stand in with the police that his filthy presence is allowed to be a Main street fixture? If there was a lot on the principal thoroughfare upon which noxious weeds grew the property own ers would be instructed to cut them down. But Mr. Looking-for-a-drink is never disturbed. Never told to "move on." To improve the city he should be reminded to betake himself to the tall timbers, where sweet-faced cows and given meadows might possibly inspire him with a ray of hope remind him that he is the son of some one, and that there is some excuse for his being on earth. v Have you observed him', dear reader!
