POLO GOSSIP AMONG FINS

BANNON OF THE INDIANAPOLIS TEAM TALKS POLO PROSPECTS DISCUSSED What Will Farrell Do is a Question Nothing New in the Situation Here. The polo situation in this city remains practically as it ended. The lme-urj for the cominr season has not been arranged and may be seriously disturbed by the new salary schedule recently adopted by the management. There are those who claim to know that George Bone can not be secured for $45 per week. No one here is in a position to say this authorativelv. but from remarks heard here and there the information is gleaned that the temptation is not sufficient. Anderson will keep its team of last year intact. Terre Haute is said to be anxious to trade ol'f Hipson. Bannon likes O'llara and believes that with a little coaching he Avill be as good as the best. The hubbub over the salary limit is a jke. None of the players is likely to quit because of the reductions. Marion is anxious to trade Warner; otherwise the Oil AVorkers' team Avill probably be the same as last season. The Indianapolis management may make a mistake by disposing of Coggshall. Ollie developed fast last year and will probably play a much better game this season. lie will about be "due." It is said that Muncie will dispose of either Higgins or Cusick. The reason given is that the two are such close friends that they play into one another hands to the detriment of the team work. AVith Curtis, McGilvray and Pierce, Indianapolis should should be prepared for all emergencies. In case of a pinch McGilvray could go to center, the center to half, and the half to goal and still the team would be strong. It would not be surprising to see Cunningham, Sr., go to Elwood during the coming season. The Western league has passed a rule that the seventh player on any team must be released to a team in the Western league if any one wants him before turning him over to any other league. Harry Way, former half-back for Indianapolis, has been reserved by Terre Haute. The Hottentot management hopes to dispose of him in a trade. Manager Foor of the Danville team Avould like to secure AYay. He considers him the best in the business and there are many fans of the same impression. Big Bill Bannon, the husky cage guardian of the Indianapolis roller polo team, who will be addressable as "Captain Bannon" during the coming season, is already beginning to east his optics about the polo horizon with a view of getting in line on the bunch Avhich he will send in pursuit of the Western League rag during the coming winter. In a letter to manager Cohen, of In dianapolis, last week Bannon discusses the prospects of the team at length.. , According to the big goal tender all the talk about western managers going east to look over the field and select new players is bosh. According to Bannon, but one really first-class player remained in the east last year, and he is Curtis, the rusher, whose name is now on the reserve list of the Indianapolis club. As outlined by Bannon, his plans for strengthening the Indianapolis team during the coming season will be to secure the services of Curtis as second rush and a new center to replace Coggshall. Under that plan McGilvray and Pierce will alternate at first rush, Curtis playing every game. O'Hara will play half-back and Bannon goal. As to the new center arrangements are not yet completed. "AA'ihi Charlie" Farrell, of the Muncie is anxious to go to Indianapolis and the management would be glad to secure him. as many rate him the equal of big Fred Jean. Farrell has come out flat-footed with a statement that he will not play in Muncie again and that rather than go back there he will quit polo. Muncie has so far refused to release him but it is possible that the management will reconsider later,' as it is not likelv that Farrell s services would be of much value to the MunRICHMOND DAILy

cie team if he continues in his pres

ent humor. In ease he is released Indianapolis will probably ret him. In case Farrell is not secured it would not be surprising if Cannavan of the Ft. Wayne team should come here. Cannavan and Pierce are close friends and it is believed that the latter can induce the captain of the " Railroaders" to come here, wHile it is fiirured that the Ft. Wayne management will be willing to part with Cannavan for Coggshall and a good cash bonus. Sick Headache. 'For several years my wife was troubled with what physicians called sick headache of a very severe character. She doctored with several eminent physicians and at a great expense, only to grow worse until she was unable to do any kind of work. About a year ago she began taking Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets and today weighs more than she ever did before and is real well," says Mr. Geo. E. Wrht of New London, New York. For sale by A. G. Luken & Co., and W. IL Sudhoff, Fifth and Main streets. BASE BALL The Home Boys Are Defeated at the Town of Dunkirk. The Richmand base ball team played at Dunkirk yesterday wiih the Models of that place. From the appearance of the score the home boys were not in it. The feature was a sensational running one-handed catch by Miller in the last inning, which retired the last man of the game. Hie score: Dunkirk ....3 0 2 2 0 0 0 7 0 3 Richmond .000000000-0 5 4 Batteries Saltmarsh and Quinn; Ma ire and Gaa. Greensfork and the Krell- French team of Newcastle played ball at Newcastle yesterday and the former won. 10 to 0, by bunching hits in the sixth inning, which netted eight runs. Batteries Bittner and Collins; Ridge and Chapman. The following New York dispatch gives Richmond some base ball advertising to which she is not entitled. AVho is Holycross? New York, August 22. Pearl Holycross, of Richmond, Ind., who is regarded as the best pitcher in the Kentucky-Indiana-Tennessee league, is to be tried by the New York Americans. It is understood he will join the New Yorks at the close of the minor league season, September 14. Cholera Infantum Th disease has lost its terrors since Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy came into general use. The uniform success which attends the use of this remedy in all cases of bowel complaints in children has made it a favorite wherever its value has become known. For sale by A. G. Luken & Co., and W.
