CONGRESS

And the President Some comments On Subject. (St. Louis Globe .Democrat.) A wild Democratic paper in Philadelphia, the Record, ,says that "congressional elections are more representative of public bentiment than presidential, and therefore Democrats chances are far better in congression al than in presidential elections." As 1904 is to be a coneerssional, as well as a presidential election year, this would rcean that wliie the Democrats are pretty certain to be beaten badly for President, they may have a chanct to get the House of Representatives. If somebody should ask that paper to name the time r.hat there was a different result in the congerssional elec tions than there was in the presidential contest at the same time it would have trouble in ihin? it. Only twice since the regular party divisions were established in this country has tha President failed to carry the House of Representatives chsen with him. Every President, except two, in all those decades had the popular branch of Congress on his side when he started out in power, though many presidents lost Congress in the election midway in their term. There will bo no division in pover this time. The party which carries the President on November J'04, will carry the House -;f Repi-esenfaiives. Let there be nodoubt on this point. The truth is that no sane Democrat believes that his party will carry eith- j Cong : of Present this yeic . licit; i ji "t t:it; luih tbi ruuuc the Dem I n.-, in eHber contest. 'Lh? same issues v.tII 1 l- as the front in each canvass. The things that deformine President Roosevelt's majority will give him a congress that will be ready to carry out his policy. No di vision of power in the national government will be had. The Republicans have a large majority in the senate, and will be sure to hold this to the end of the approaching presidential term, no matter how the contest for President goes this year. It is forthat power will not be divided between the parties. The Republicans will have the President and the House as well as the Senate. All three branches of the government will be in harmony. No deadlocks, such as have often taken place in Congress some time in presidential terms, are to be feared this time. Col. Roosevelt will have both chambers of Congress in harmony with him when he begins his new term on March 4, 1905. ' Better Than Gold. itI was troubled for several years with chronic indigestion and nervous debility," writes F. J. Green, of Lancaster, N. H., "No remedy helped me until I began using Elictric Bitters which did me more good than all the medicines I ever used. They have also kept my wife in excellent health for years. She says Electric Bitters are just splendid for female troubles; that they are a grand tonic and invigorator for weak, run down women.
