The teachers of the State have arranged a meeting for Thursday next at Indianapolis to take up the work of ferreting out the murderer of Miss Sarah C. Shafer, which occurred at Bedford on the night of January 21 last. If the present plan of the teachers of Indiana is successful, $20,000 will in a few weeks be available for use in the efforts to detect and convict the murderer. The general plan of raising the fund is to issue a circular letter to all county and city school superintendents of Indiana, who will be asked to present the matter to the teachers in their jurisdiction an dto receive any contributions and forward the same to a person who will be appointed for that purpose. Prof. W. E. Stipp, superintendent of the Lawrence county schools, who

! is the originator of this novel scheme has received letters from all parts of the state commending him for his interest in the matter and approving the plan suggested. A commission of five is to be appointed to control the fund and determine the manner in which it is to be expended. It is the present intention to employ two detectives, Captain Jacob D. Haage, of Louisville, and Calvin R. Crum, of Cincinnati, to ferret out the murderer and to have the evidence thus adduced presented

RAILROAD NOTES.

President Zimmerman, of the C, II. & D. line states that no extensions are being planned and reports to that effect are prompted by the fact thai the C, II. & IX is interested in the Queen & Crescent. Harry Reigh, a Pennsylvania conductor, has just passed his thirtyninth year of service with the road. Other men have longer records of service with the company, but none as young as Mr. Reigh, whose first title was messenger boy, under A. J. Cassat, then superintendent of motive power. After several years of service he was made a passenger conductor and he is proud of his early service under President Cassat. F. II. Prince, former president of the Pere Marquette, has issued a state ment in which he denies that either the Vanderbilt, Rock Island of Frisco interests are behind the recent combine of the C, II. & D. and the C, C. & L road. lie asserts that it is not a stock jobbing deal in any sense and was brought about solely by Detroit, Toledo, Cincinnati and Boston capitalists.
