LULU TYLER GATES AT JACKSOf SPA8K

GAVE SPLENDID READINGS 10 A LARGE AUDIENCE THE CLAY MODELING By Ross Crane Was a Unique Entertainment That Pleased the Large Crowd. Jackson Park was filled from noon until, late at night yesterday with large numbers of people from Richmond, Cambridge City, Milton, Centerville and other "Wayne county towns, all endeavoring to get away fro mthe heat and choosing cool Jackson Park as the place to do it. The program of entertainment offered by the R. S. & I. company was indeed an excellent one, better than any wet offered so far, with the possibe exception of the Phinney band. The entertainment yesterday was of an entirely different nature and seemed to please even more readily than did the band last Sunday. Mrs. Lulu Tvler Gates, the well known Chautauqua reader, who de lighted the large audiences at the Richmond Chautauqua last fall, appeared on the program for several readings and received qu'ifle an ovation on her appearance from the many who heard her last August. Her readings were better even than .they were last year. Her voice, well modulated, threw the emphasis on the striking important thoughts and her reading's were wonderful. Mrs. Gates is probably one of the best entertainers in her line in the West, and she has never appeared to better advantage, nor Avith better reading, than she d'Al yesterday, and the applause given her was long and loud. Ross Crane offered one of the most unique entertainments that has been given in this city for a long time. His forte was clay modeling and Mr. Crane -worked with a dexterity and accurateness that was marvelous tq the onlookers. A large lump of wet clay, ugly and with no semblance of form, was in a few minutes, by the sWjfft work of his magic fingers, transformed into the bust and head of some noted American or foreigner. In each case the work was done so well and accurately that it was needless for Mr. Crane to call out the name, as the audience recognized immediately whom the clay model represented. This unique entertainment proved very enjoyable to the audience. The Cambridge City band made a good impression and played well, receiving great applause for the artistic rendition of the selections. Numbers of picnic parties were in Jackson Park to spend the afternoon and evening, with a picnic supper. The R. S. & I. offered good service to the park, which was appreciated by the patrons. No Substitute Offered Say what you will about druggists offering something "just as good" because it pays better profit, the fact still stands that ninety-nine out of a hundred druggists recommend Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy when the best remedy for diarrhoea is asked for, and do so be cause they know it is the one remedy that can always be depended upon, even in the most severe and danger ous cases. Sold by A. G. Luken & Co., and W. H. Sudhoff, Fifth and Main streets. Blue Island, 111., Jan. 14, 1901. Messrs. II TO RICHMOND OF C., H. & D. FEOM COAL FIELD NOW CERTAIN FIRST GIVEN OUT To Surveyors, Etc., That Their Work Was for a New Traction Line. It k now -.!! assured fact that the branch will be built to some point a few miles south, or even to this city itself, from Dayton, Ohio, to connect with the coal-carrying branch of the C, H. & D., of which the "Straight L'Aie" is now a part. Several of the engineers, surveyors and helpers, who are working on the branch now, were in Richmond yesterday to spend the day and they all talked freely concerning the proposed branch. Although they would not say for certain exactly why the road was being built nor by whom, they said that it was almost certain that the C, II. & D. was back of it. It was first given out, when the surveyors set out, that the surveying and other work was for a narrow-guage traction line, and this was tod to both workmen and the people of the towns through whkh the road passed. But subsequent events showed that this road was not to be for a traction line and finally, after the preliminary work Avas well started it leaked out that the road was a branch from Dayton to Richmond. The surveyors and road men are now as far as "West Lebanon, Ohio, and are working fast to get their part of the work completed soon. It is probable that before winter, sets in the woik on the new branch will be well under way. The new road will mean much to this city and to the manufacturers, chifly in that it will give a new short route to the Ohio coal fields. Sick Headache. "For several ' years my wife was troubled with what physicians called sick headache of a very severe character. She doctored with several eminent physicians and at a great expense, only to grow worse until she was unable to do any kind of work. About a year ago she began taking Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets and today weighs more than she ever did before and is real well," says Mr. Geo. E. Wrht of New London, New York.
