rrsWI HISS RECORD
Many a man would better go without lunch at all than eat the hurried lunch which forms the noon-day meal of many a business man. Hasty eating, foods hard to digest, and no time allowed for digestion are the cause of many a case of stomach " trouble." Disease of the stomach seriously threatens the health of the whole body and should be promptly cured. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery cures diseases of the stomach
and other organs of digestion and nutrition. It enables the perfect assimilation of food and the proper nutrition of the body on which physical strength depends. "Nine or ten years ago my health became very poor, and ini892 was so far gone that good doctors pronounced my case the worst they had ver treated." writes "Mr. Harvey Phipps. of Florence, Ala. I had aewte stomach trouble, liver complaint, catarrh and was nervous to such an extent I could not sleep. I fiuallv grot three bottles of Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery and some ' Pellets.' Took them according to
directions on the bottles, and in a few days noticed a decided improvement. I commenced to g-et more rest at night and could eat with pleasure, where formerly food was like chips to me. When I had used three bottles of the Discovery ' I was a new man ; could eat mince pie for supper, go to bed at sewn P. M. and sleep nntil seven A. M I am now working at mv trade (carpentry), every day in all kinds of weather, and think if I had not taken your medicines I would now be under the sod." Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets cleanse the clogged system from accumulated impurities.

Effective June 20, 1904
Indianapolis, July 21. Miss Rec
ord recovered consciousness yesterday
and rested well last night. No ques
tions were asked her until today, how
ever, tor rear or throwing ner into a
nervous spasm. This morning William H. Record, the father of the girl talked with her, and then drove in haste to the city to consult with the police. Captain Kinney received the report, and questioned Record closely regarding the case. Miss Record told her father she was writing a letter to Mrs. Everett Wayman of RushviUe, and saw through th eopen door a negro and a white man drive by the house several times. She became frightened when the white man ap-
nroaehed and asked her whether her
father was away much of the time.
When the men drove away, she said,
she resumed her writing.
A short time later the back door to the room was opened and the men stepped inside and seized her, in spite
of her struggles to escape. They wrapped her in a mackintosh, she said and carried her out and across the swampy land in the rear of the house.
Some distance away was a road,
where the men had their horse9 tied
She was thrown into a buggy and
driven away rapidly. She said she remembered crossing two long bridges
and riding up two steep hills.
At a point near the river tne men
stopped and urged her to accompany
them to St. Louis. When she refused,
one of the men drew the back of
knife blade across her throat, with the threat that he would end her life. She
defied them to do their worst, and
they then pushed her in the water, re
taining their hold on her. She was subjected to threats several times, and
on her reiusal to accompany the men
to St. Louis they ducked her repeatedly in the water. Failing to break her resolution not to go with them, the men put her again into the buggy
and drove in a circuitous way back to
the West Newton and Southport road
and threw her out at the Wishard
crossing. No attempt was made to
assault the girl.
Mr. Record attempted to keep the
statement from becoming public and
few, if any, of the farmers who have interested themselves in the case knew that the girl had told of the mat
ter. A few minutes after Record had talked with Capt. Kinney he said the
girl was not able to talk and that she
had not made a statement of any kind Record, had been instructed by the police that if any definite evidence
was obtained regarding the identity
of any men implicated in the alleged
kidnapping to hold it until he commu
nicated with him. It is thought Rec
ord misunderstood the instructions.
Persons who were at the Record
home at the time the girl was brought
there after she had been found at the
crossroads say that her clothing did
not appear to have been in the water,
Dr. Ratliff, of West Newton, said her shirtwaist was dry and did not have the appearance of a garment that had
been in the water. Her underi?ar
CT ments were dry, he said. The young woman's skirts were wet and muddy, a3 if caused by running through the marsh land. The local police and sheriff will
make a visit to the Record home for an official statement from the girl. If any clew is found that will lead to the solution of the case it will be followed to the end. Miss Record is a pretty girl of eighteen years.
