TRAVEL INCREASED

G. R. & I. TRAINS PRACTICALLY MADE UP HERE. ARE HEAVILY LOADED Climax in Northern Travel Will Come Early This Year Fair Travel Steady. The increase in travel to the north still continues, while the travel to St. Louis remains about the same. Ush., but steady. Richmond is an important point in the travel to the northern Indiana ami Michigan resorts, which is now the heaviest of any of the lines that pass through this city. The trains are practically made up here for iheir four hundred and fifty mile trip to Petoskey and the other resorts, as the sleepers from Louisville, St. Louis, Columbus, and Indianapolis, etc., are attached to the fast northbound trains at the local station. The G. Tf. & I. section here has called all its extra equipment used especiallly for this service into use, and the passenger crews on the "fishing line" are having their hands full in taking care of the extra large crowds that are seeking relief from the oppressive he.it in the cool lake resorts. The travel to Michigan grows larger every year, a.itl this year, while the Fair will prove a strong counter attraction, birls fair to see the largest travel yet as the travel to the fair and that to the northern resorts are strongest at different periods of the year. "The climax in travel from Richmond to the Michigan summer resorts nearly always comes about August fifteenth, this being the average date for the past four or five years," said a local passenger official today, "but this year several things will cause it to come earlier this season, about August 5th to 10th. The attendance at the fair will increase about that time, and many will leave the resorts for the St. Louis attraction." The baggagemen at the local station say that their work on the G. R. & I. line, although there are but seven trains a day, is nearly as large as on the Indianapolis division. Institute to be Held in Indianapolis President Kelly to Make Address. A meeting of the County Teachers' Institute association will be held in the State House at Indianapolis on August 6, and matters looking to the improvement of the county institutes will be discussed. Three subjects will be taken up: The county institute instructor, the county superintendent and the teacher. Among the prominent educators who will address the meeting will be President W. L. Bryan of Indiana University and R. L. Kelly, of Richmond. Deafness Cannot Be Cured. by local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling sound of imperfect hearing and wen it is entirely closed, deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give one hundred dollars for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars free. F. J. CHENEY & CO., Toledo, Ohio. Sold by all druggists, 75c. Take Hall's Family Pills for constipation. For sale by A. G. Luken & Co. nnd W. II. Sudhoff, Fifth and Main Sts. Whenever the German Emper.or undertakes a trip to Norway he engages as his pilot a mariner named Nordhaus, who receives 3,000 marks for his service.

FALSE REPORTS

Fair Completed Weeks Ago and Living Rates are Reasonable. St. Louis, July 20. All reports to the effect that the World's Fair is in an incomplete state are false. Without exception, the main exhibit palaces were finished before the day of opening, April 30, and since then every State and foreign building and concession structures that was not finished at that time has been completed, with the single exception of one small building for which the concession was let only three weeks ago. The World's Fair has been injured more or less by the publication of grossly erroneous statements regarding the cost of living in St. Louis. Gradually these false reports are being refuted in the press and by word of mouth, as visitors from far and near come to St. Louis and find that living accommodations are remarkaby reasonable. There are scores of restaurants where an abundant and wholesome meal may be had for 25c, and there are scores of hotels where lodging at $1.00 a day is the prevailing rate. Thousands of private families, in the best residential districts of the city, have opened their homes for the entertainment of World 's Fair visitors, at rates for lodgings ranging from 50c up per day. Summer Complaint is not always brought about by change of air and water. The "stay-at-homes" are just as suceptible to diarrhoea; due, generally, to over eating, as unripe fruits, etc.; and, drinking ice water; all accompanied by painful bowel discharges; and, if not checked, results seriously. Perry Davis' Painkiller is the only reliable remedy. 25c and 50c. Exposure to a sudden climatic change produces cold in the head and catarrh is apt to follow. Provided with Ely's Cream Balm you are armed against Nasal Catarrh. Price 50c at Druggists or Ely Brothers, 56 Warren street, New York, wil mail it. The Balm cures without pain, does not irritate or cause sneezing. It spreads itself over an irritated and angry surface, relieving immediately the painful inflammation, cleanses and cures. Cream Balm quickly cures the cold. AMMERMAN AT EATON. Eaton, Ohio, July 20. Postmaster J. W. Ammerman has returned from the Oxford santiarium very much improved in health, and hopes to be quite strong before the summer is over. Cramps, Dysentery, Chorela Morbus, diarrhoea, and, indeed, all bowel complaints quickly relieved by Perry Davis' Painkiller, a safe, sure and speedy cure, for all the troubles named. Every reputable druggist keeps a supply. Each bottle has full directions. Avoid substitutes, there is but one Painkiller; Perry Davis.' 25c and 50c. During the civil war, on the? ve of a battle, the Union Army lay encamped on one side of a river, and the Confederate Army on the other. The day was calm and beautiful, and as the sunset hour drew near, t!;e band in one camp started to play "Yankee f Doodle." Hearing this a band in a Southern camp responded with "Dixie." Then came a sort of duel of the bands, each playing in turn the songs of its own rank, until, as Jie time for taps, the good-natured battle ceased and the music died awny. Then from out of the stillness, came the mellow tones of a distant cornet, sounding that melody which appealed alike to the hearts beating under the blue, and the gray uniforms. It was "Home Sweet Home." One by one the bands took up the refrain, until, on both sides of the river. Hi? air was filled with the music of that song which for the time, bound together those who on the morrow would have to face each other in mortal combat. At this point a Confederate soldier came down the river bank, and his voice rang out in the darkness, "What's the matter with us all going home," he said, "What are we here for anyway?" On this incident is founded Mr. Phinney's descriptive fantastia, called "From Battlefield to Fireside." A production of this grand descriptive fantasia will be given by Phinney's United States Band.
