PreachCAMPAIGN POETS Are Up Against a Hard Proposiiton in This Year of 1904. . (New Orleans Times-Democrat.) "The campaign poets are up against the real thing as a result of the two recent national conventions," said a man who likes to dig at the humbler singers, "and it would seem that both the Republicans and the Democrats deliberately disregarded the poet's rights in these circumstances. They paid absolutely no attention to the question of rhyme, and no doubt each party will insist that the other paid but little attention to reason in ie matter of making nominations for President and Vice President. Take the work of the Republicans at Chicago for instance. No decent and well regulated poet would attempt to find a word that would rhyme with Roosevelt or Fairbanks. Such a thing is simply out of the question. The loetizer who can find a word to rhyme with Roosevelt ought to get a cicgar ind another throw. In the first place, the fetters used in spelling the name
giveno clew to the pronunciation of it.

At 7:00 a musical by the choir, 8:00 preaching by the pastor. Everybody cordially invited. Down South we pronounce the name as if spelled Rezeyfelt, or sometimes Ruzefelt. Up the country where the President himself has set the pace in pronouncing his name, he is called Rosefelt. But in any event the rhyme maker is up against it. The recent Democratic convention at St. Louis was of the same kind so far as the poet is concerned. There may be words in the English language that will jingle with Parker, and with Davis, but the man who sits down to hammer out a verse will find some difficulty before he has finished the work. The poet is simply in hard lines so far as the Presidential campaign of 1904 is concerned. If any of the bolder members attempt to weld either of these names into a rhyme he will be taking desperate chances, and will probably have to starin a point, and seek rather questionable refuge in poetic license in order to make the thing go at all. The outlook is indeed gloomy and discouraging for the campaign poet in 1904." DDruggists Say, And it is True The Speer's wine is pronounced by our customers and our doctors the best they ever used.
