Tuesday afternoon a man went to Charles Routh 's livery barn in Cambridge City, stating that he wished to sell the sorrel mare which he was driving. He said that he represented a Chicago portrait house and had a number of men working at Cambridge City and afc Centerville. Mr. Routh bought the horse for fifty dollars, giving the man a cheek for the amount. The stranger then left and Mr. Routh, feeling (somewhat suspicious, examined the harness and found it to be that belonging to a livery stable. The deal had not been made until after four o'clock, so Mr. Routh knew that the banks were closed, and there w?.s no chance for the check to be :ashed so there, he teelephoned to C. W. D. Jones, banker, telling him the circumstances and asking him not to cash the check. Shortly afterward the

man went to Mr. Jones asking him to cash the check, but upon finding that j Mr. Jones would not, he then went to j a number of the business men asking j the same favor. The men would not j

comply to his wishes without 6rst consulting Mr. Jones and Routh, so of course, these chances were agiin lost. He then went to Centerville and from there, telephoned to Mr. Green, South Ninth street, of whom he had

hired the horse that mornmr. 1

Triumphs of Modern Surgery.

Wonderful things are done for the ! human body by surgery. Organs are taken out and scraped and polished j

and put back, or they may be removed entirely; bones are spliced; pipes

take the place of diseased sections of veins; antiseptic dressings are ap

plied to wounds, bruises, burns and like injuries before inflammation sets

in, which causes them to heal without maturation and in one-third of the

time required by the od treatment. Chamberlain's Pain Balm acts on tbife same principle. It is an antiseptic and when applied to such injuries, causes them to heal very quickly. It also allays the pain and soreness. Keep a bottle of Bain Balm in your home and it will save you time and money, not to mention the inconvenience and suffering which such injuries entail.
